Job Description

Senior Occupational Therapist or PhysiotherapistSalary £48,526 per annum (Band 8a)Dudley and Solihull Wheelchair Services, B37 7HB and DY5 1TAFull timePurpose of JobTo provide clinical leadership and expertise to the wheelchair service clinical team and other wheelchair service team members, from a background of Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy. The post holder will be required to run clinics in both Solihull andDudley Wheelchair Services and provide clinical leadership in both sites.The wheelchair service provided by Ross Care, on behalf of the NHS ICBs, has a responsibility to ensure that all eligible Service Users receive the wheelchair equipment they require to meet their clinical mobility needs as assessed by the clinical team,following referral to the service. The post holder will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of safe, caring, responsive, effective and well-led wheelchair services by:

  • Overseeing the clinical input to the services, working closely with service users, their families and carers and the multi-disciplinary teams supporting service users
  • Working with senior management and other wheelchair service team members to understand service specifications and demands and to achieve contractual standards of performance and excellent customer service
  • Ensuring that clinical supervision is provided to all clinical staff
  • Developing and maintaining links with other relevant services and organisations
  • Developing and maintaining links with "hard to reach" sectors of the local community through close liaison with the Community Health/Liaison Engagement Officer (CHEO/CLEO) and with referrers to the Wheelchair Service, particularly local therapists.
Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Management:
  • Work positively with colleagues to maintain effective relationships within the team and with services such as the repair and maintenance services, actively promoting collaboration at all levels
  • Report to and work collaboratively with the senior management team to ensure provision of an efficient and effective clinical service that meets contractual obligations, provides excellent customer service and meets the standards required to maintain ISOregistrations
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes of ethics, professional conduct and professional standards
  • Ensure that a clinical supervision structure is in place to meet HCPC registration requirements and provide opportunities for reflecting on clinical practice and professional development, offering direct supervision and delegating supervision as appropriate
  • Ensure that annual appraisals are conducted for all clinical staff, and that personal development plans reflect the goals of the organisation
  • Support the development/review of policies, standard operating procedures and other improvement projects
  • Arrange, co-ordinate and attend meetings to ensure effective communication within the services and with external stakeholders, leading where appropriate
  • Promote a culture of learning and development, ensuring that clinical staff are competent to undertake their roles, recognising the importance of technical as well as clinical training.
  • Ensure best practice is adhered to in all areas of wheelchair service delivery, in line with national service frameworks and standards of treatment/practice, collaborating with other Wheelchair Service Clinical Leads through regular meetings to share anddevelop best practice
  • Encourage staff membership of and contribution to professional groups such as the Posture & Mobility Group (PMG)
  • Engage with and encourage participation in relevant national and local organisations (such as the National Wheelchair Managers Forum (NWMF), MNDA etc.), working with CHEO/CLEO as appropriate
  • Lead in the recruitment and selection of new clinical staff, reviewing recruitment needs and opportunities in collaboration with the National Clinical Team and Regional Director, and ensuring that new staff have well-structured induction programmes includingprobationary reviews
  • Keep up to date with Medical Devices regulations and medical device alerts (MDAs) relating to wheelchairs and associated equipment
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards
  • At all times, comply with controls assurance standards for wheelchairs
  • Identify and report any areas of concern to senior management
  • Contribute to reviews and evaluations of existing and new equipment
  • Manage clinical staff in line with policies relating to lone working, absence, leave etc.
  • Assist in the monitoring of referrals to the service through the various pathways, identifying trends and ways in which service delivery could be improved
  • Ensure compliance with policies relating to documenting capacity and obtaining and recording informed consent
  • Ensure compliance with Ross Cares Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
Clinical
  • Work as a senior autonomous practitioner
  • Be responsible for the clinical team
    • Providing expert clinical support
    • Ensuring that staff are supported in managing their own caseloads and are working at the appropriate competence level
  • Ensure clinical competence and effectiveness in all areas of practice:
    • Triage
    • Duty activities
