Job Description

Senior Buyer, Birmingham, £32-35k (Automotive) This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading and growing Classic Car parts businesses who are looking to recruit a senior Buyer to join their team.Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, we are looking for someone who can optimise the purchasing performance for an extensive range of classic car components and review supplier costs and delivery performance.So as the Senior Buyer what will you be doing

  • Developing new suppliers and sources to support the sales function and optimise margin performance;
  • Identifying supply solutions for items no longer available;
  • Negotiating new and existing contracts to ensure continued value, flexibility and sustainability;
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with existing suppliers including face to face visits if necessary;
  • Negotiating preferred freight, courier and charter rates and maximizing our global purchasing power;
  • Developing and put in place new systems and procedures to optimise the procurement function;
  • Working in close partnership with other departments and stake holders in the business, including sales, marketing and finance;
  • Working closely with sales team to identify new parts to bring to market and resurrect parts no longer available;
  • Working closely with suppliers and distribution to ensure maximised availability and fulfilment without holding excess stock;
  • Ensuring minimal wastage;
  • Improve supplier delivery performance;
  • Improve supplier cost performance;
  • Maintenance of supplier data, price lists, contact details etc;
  • Daily review of back orders and expediting of due/overdue purchase lines and updating delivery ETAs.
So, what will you need to have as the Senior Buyer
  • CIPS or MCIPS Membership or Qualification would be desirable;
  • Strong eye for detail and good level of numeracy;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • IT skills (MS Office) and stock control (Merlin or similar operating systems);
  • Significant track record of cost saving and supplier development skills;
  • Detailed knowledge of the classic car parts market, or experience in working in a fast paced auto parts aftermarket would be an advantage.
This role would suit someone with existing supply chain experience, who is used to negotiating and improving terms and can onboard new suppliers whilst managing a tier one and tier 2 supplier list. It is a newly created role and therefore has a lot of varietyand scope.
