Job Description

2179 - Risk Manager AdvertYour new roleNational Highways currently has an excellent opportunity for a Risk Manager within the Smart Motorways Programme of our Major Projects Directorate in Birmingham.We are seeking a candidate with a highly organised approach to work, who is able to balance adherence to process with flexibility to ensure successful outcomes. The successful candidate will also need a strong commitment to delivery and excellent communicationskills.This role will support the Project Director and Head of Risk in delivering excellence in Risk Management by driving measurable improvement in project Risk Management performance; and ensuring that there is robust management of risks, issues and opportunitiesat a project level.What youll be leading onManaging the SMP risk management framework and ensuring a consistent approach to identifying, assessing, recording, mitigating and reporting risk exposure throughout the project lifecycle.Providing assurance to key stakeholders that appropriate plans are in place to mitigate threats and exploit opportunities to ensure that the projects deliver on time and to cost and quality parameters, ensuring business case benefits are delivered.Supporting the Risk Lead in undertaking effective second-line-of-defence (2LoD) assurance pan-programme (e.g. PCF product assurance, right risk to right quality, QRA outputs).Deploying and continuously improving the effectiveness of risk management processes, systems, tools, techniques and capabilities across the programme.Managing the SMP programme risk register to ensure all relevant threats and opportunities are captured, including any upwards reporting and escalation to the Major Projects directorate.Deputising for the SMP Programme Risk Lead and/or the SMP Head of Risk and Change, where required.Line managing the SMP Assistant Risk Manager. Working collaboratively with colleagues from within the SMP Risk team, PMO, wider programme and from across Major Projects to continuously improve risk management standards and capability across the directorate. Supporting and assuring cost and schedule risk analysis activities across the programme.Provide risk reporting and analysis at the Project /Programme level and other senior stakeholders in Finance, Cost Estimating and Commercial & Procurement for decision making purposes.Championing risk maturity improvements across the programme whilstCapturing, retaining and disseminating risk learning across major Projects Highways England communities.To be successful youll needExperience of working in a complex programme and project environment.Demonstrable track record of embedding and assuring risk management processes, tools, systems and people capability across a project or programme.Knowledge and experience of capturing, analysing and reporting quantitative and qualitative risk management data both at a project and programme level.Experience of training and/or coaching others to develop risk management knowledge and skills and implement industry best practice standards.Track record of managing relationships with multiple stakeholders and evidence of skills to influence relationships for positive outcomes.A degree in a relevant subject with professional accreditation to the risk management profession or relevant professional qualifications.Experience of change programmes specific to embedding and maintaining Risk management processes, tools, systems and people capability.A bit about usSmart Motorways Programme (SMP)The advent of new technology, different ways of operating and enhanced operations provides an opportunity to significantly enhance the performance of some motorway sections of the Strategic Road Network to a Smart Motorway standard.Our benefits packageOur total reward package includes basic salary, the potential for a performance related bonusContributory pension scheme with employer contribution of up to 10%Annual Leave starting at 26 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising by 1 day each year up to 31 days (plus Bank Holidays)Flexible hours and blended working between base location/homeLife assurance of 4 times annual salaryHealth and wellbeing support, including an Employee Assistance Programme, available 24/7 365 days and network of mental health first aiders.
