Job Description

Your new roleNational Highways is currently recruiting for a Project and Process Improvement Lead to join our team. This role is responsible for the effective delivery of strategic projects and end to end process simplification, ensuring full alignment of our Finance& Business Services (FBS) directorate activities with the corporate National Highways Transformation Programme and company strategic aims. Providing dedicated FBS representation to various company-wide corporate change initiatives and managing the completionof actions and tasks.This involves owning and developing continuous improvement methodology, promoting a culture of continuous improvement across FBS and delivering efficiency improvements. As a project manager you will identify and lead on directorate led initiatives.This role will be based at our Birmingham office at Colmore Square, in line with our flexible working agreement.What youll be leading on

  • Lead the directorate process improvement team ensuring engagement from across Corporate Services is cascaded. Bring together a central community that manages and improves our end-to-end processes, ensuring seamless handovers and interfaces exist.
  • Establish a centre of excellence for the directorate for the Business Management System (BMS) to ensure best practice is adhered to across FBS with regards to implementing process improvement and continuous improvement and project governance
  • Establish effective working relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders to influence the right outcomes.
  • Lead on the requirements gathering and procurement of suppliers and manage supplier performance appropriately to drive delivery and performance, enacting remedial measures where needed.
  • Develop and implement reports to inform senior stakeholders, corporate committees and interested communities as and when required to gain executive buy in.
  • Work in collaboration with the Finance Capability Manager and L&D CofE to ensure tailored and comprehensive training interventions are in place both within the directorate and the wider organisation to upskill following changes to processes and policies.
  • As a project manager identify and lead on initiatives across the directorate including for example the corporate benchmarking exercise. Ensuring outputs are embedded into business as usual, used to enhance decision making and form an integral part of businessplanning process.
  • Lead on business change activities to ensure that the benefits of new ways of working are realised from projects delivered for FBS.
To be successful
  • Experience of working in business transformational programmes within a large complex organisation.
  • Being comfortable working with ambiguity in a complex change environment.
  • Recent and relevant experience of working in a finance function with knowledge of finance governance, processes, and controls.
  • Experience leading, directing, and managing third parties to enable the delivery of outsourced work.
  • Experience in drafting and presenting reports and briefings to a senior executive audience.
  • Experience working with proven process methodologies such as LEAN
  • Project management skills (a relevant qualification would be desirable) and a proven track record in delivering successful outcomes.
  • Ability to drive change forward to effective implementation dealing constructively with setbacks.
