Job Description

About your new roleOur leading Private Wealth team provides a comprehensive range of legal services for both individuals and businesses/corporations including Charities. We are ranked in both Chambers and Legal 500 and are growing rapidly, reflecting our enviable reputationfor advising clients on all their personal legal needs.We are proud to provide a personal, transparent and efficient service by a team which includes fully qualified members of STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) as well as members of Solicitors for the Elderly. Understanding the importanceof careful estate planning to help provide for future generations, we offer lifetime and post-death planning to a diverse range of clients. The Birmingham team has been shortlisted twice for the Birmingham Legal Awards Private Client Team of the Year in 2019and 2020 (carried over to 2021) and is part of the national multi award winning Private Wealth team.We are currently recruiting for a Private Wealth Lawyer with 0 - 2 years PQE to join our team in Birmingham.Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage own caseload of private client work, including high value/complex probate work and estate planning for high net worth individuals under the supervision of senior members of the team
  • Assist other case handlers in the team and wider department with their cases as may be required
  • Advise and take instructions from clients in relation to their financial affairs
  • Travel to and attend upon clients
  • Prepare and file various correspondence, notes and documentation
  • Assist with marketing the services of the team and wider department
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targetsKPIs
  • Ensure relevant deadlines and quality measures are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

  • Person specification
    • Solicitor or Legal Executive ideally with a minimum of 2 years equivalent experience in Private Client law but applicants from NQ to 2 years PQE will be considered
    • Keen interest and experience in all aspects of private client law with exposure to a broad range of work including trust administration and succession planning
    • Ideally STEP qualified or interested in working towards STEP qualification
    • Some business development skills and experience and a keen interest in developing these and taking an active role in the growth of the team
    • Excellent IT skills
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Excellent time management and organisation skills
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritise
    • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
    • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
    • Flexible, pro-active and team-orientated approach
