Job Description

Principal StatisticianYour new role (maternity cover 9 months possible to extend)We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled Principal Statistician who will thrive on setting the strategic direction for the team and lead the organisation forward. You will play a pivotal role developing and improving the wider useof statistics in the organisation and provide guidance to support consistent and robust statistical analysis and communication. You will lead a team of 4 and be responsible for their development as well as bringing statistical expertise to the analysis, interpretationand insight of the subject matter (primarily safety traffic, and customer satisfaction data). As a strong communicator you will work with both internal and external stake holders across all levels to demonstrate the capabilities of the team and highlight thecorrect use of statistics and analysis.What you will be leading on

  • Building and maintaining effective strategic working relationships with internal and external partners to meet business needs
  • Identifying, developing and implementing statistical skills and methodologies for the use of the team and wider organisation
  • Acting as statistical subject matter expert and providing advice across the organisation
  • Lead on analytical/statistical projects and produce analytically assured reports and outputs that communicate insight effectively across all levels
  • Setting and implementing consistent standards and guidance for statistical analysis and communication of statistics
  • Support the Chief Analysts Division in its mission to ensure analysis is highly visible, impactful, relevant, credible and tailored to support decision-making.
To be successful
  • Masters or PhD in a Statistical discipline or significant work experience in a similar role
  • Practical understanding of statistical modelling and its application to real world problems
  • Demonstrable experience of using statistical data-analysis to support decision making and ensuring high levels of analytical quality and assurance.
  • Previous experience of developing and implementing strategy
  • Demonstrable leadership experience with positive outcomes
  • Experience and ability to work collaboratively to build and maintain strong relationships
  • Strong influencing skills applied effectively across functions and levels of an organisation
A bit about us Our role in the Performance Analysis team is to provide bespoke analysis and insight to support decision making across the organisation. We develop and report a number of the companys performance metrics and play a key role in developing the PerformanceSpecification, published within the Roads Investment Strategy. We are located within the Companys Strategy and Planning Directorate and have help build the evidence base to support future investment planning, working with our analytical colleagues withinthe Chief Analysts Division.
