The roleAs a Principal Advisor and Team Leader (Tunnels) you will support the Group Manager and the Head of Technical Service for Highway Structures and Vehicle Restraints. You will have a team of direct reports to manage, motivate and develop to assist them inachieving both business and personal objectives. You will provide specialist and complex technical advice and guidance to support the safe and efficient development, operation, maintenance and modernisation of tunnels on the Strategic Road Network (SRN). Youwill contribute to National Highways asset management transformation / change programme as well as take a lead on best practice in design, construction, operation and management of our tunnels assets.This is a great opportunity to develop your career, within the technical management of tunnels, providing the technical assurance on two of the countrys most iconic new highway tunnel projects, working with industry leading experts who are dedicated to quality,safety and making a meaningful contribution to the users of the SRN.This role can be based in any of our primary office locations (Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bedford, Guildford, Bristol or Exeter) and offers flexible working arrangements, including a blended homeworking / office-based approach. This post also offersthe opportunity to apply for compressed hours working, in which contractual hours are worked over fewer working days (e.g. nine day fortnight).What youll be leading onLead, motivate and develop a small team of specialists to ensure that they are engaged with and capable of delivering their team and personal objectives.Use your tunnels knowledge to provide technical leadership, leading the development and evaluation of solutions, supporting the team in resolving technical issues, providing authoritative advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and representing the interestsof National Highways with external stakeholders.Support your team providing oversight to the appropriate management of tunnels related risks.Ensure technical solutions are appropriately documented, overseeing the application of CG300 Technical Approval of Highway Structures while undertaking the role of Technical Approval Authority.Contribute to the development of tunnels policy/guidance and the development of standards.To be successfulBe a chartered engineer (C.Eng.) or equivalent (demonstrated by experience) with substantial work experience relevant to the role and a relevant membership of a professional Institution (e.g. MICE or MIStructE or equivalent).
