Job Description

Paralegal - Occ Health Team - BirminghamDWF LLP is seeking to recruit a Paralegal to join the Occupational Health team in Birmingham.The part of the Occupational Health team that we are recruiting for deals with a very varied mixture of work ranging in value from low end fast track to upper end multi-track work. The work includes varied types of accidents at work, public liability claims and various disease matters to include deafness, VWF, asbestos injuries as well as WRULD/RSI and other types of disease claims to include asthma, dermatitis and stress related injuries. Additionally the role will involve assisting senior team members with EL, PL claims including defending claims for occupational stress and historic abuse claims.We act for a variety of entities including insurance companies, local authorities, self-insured’s and nominations via brokers. The work undertaken by the team is predominantly litigated.We will consider applications from candidates with strong academics at degree level or above who possess relevant experience of fee earning, particularly handling their own caseload of work as indicated above.We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate a real interest in Occupational Health/casualty work, who is a team player with strong communication skills and attention to detail. We are also seeking a candidate who is familiar with working in a commercial environment, who is able to use their own initiative and is a self-starter. The ability to be able to organise yourself and comply with deadlines is paramount. There is real scope to do a wide variety of work in this role.Main function of job: To progress cases, under supervision, to an effective and satisfactory conclusion for clients whilst providing and maintaining management information under the terms of the client service level agreement and to assist the senior team with more complex cases, being very much a trusted support to the team.Main Duties:

  • To action all cases in line with department/client service standards and protocols.
  • To deal with technical aspects of the case, under the supervision of the Team Leader.
  • To ensure that financial targets are met.
  • Use of the Case Management system and use of standard documentation wherever appropriate.
  • To ensure client care in all cases.
  • Progress cases to a satisfactory/speedy settlement in accordance with client requirements.
  • Record all time accurately.
  • Partake in any other duties that are deemed necessary to support the DWF business as and when required.
  • To follow all the Firms policies and procedures.
  • To ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.
