A permanent, part time Band 6 job opportunity has arisen to join our team. You will be joining a clinical team of 4 Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologists, 2 Clinical Fellows, 2 Junior Doctors, 3 Optometrists, 12 Orthoptists and 2 Nurses who all work closely together to deliver care to our children and young people.Our patient cohort encompasses large numbers of difficult conditions which are often seen in specialist clinics including retinoblastoma, paediatric cataract, uveitis, glaucoma, neuroophthalmology,cilliopathy and rare diabetes, retinal, craniofacial, contact lens, inherited metabolic diseases. As a result we have embraced the extended diagnostic support role of the Orthoptist to include IOP pressure measurement, Fundus and digital photography, Optical Coherence tomography and OPTOS retinal imaging together with the development of Orthoptic led clinics.You will be expected to participate in general and orthoptic led specialist clinics, refraction and specialist pediatric contact lens clinics, and general and specialist ophthalmology clinics. You will be given an opportunity to gain experience in a lead clinical role working with the senior orthoptic team to ensure the orthoptic team keeps up to date with current literature and ensuring protocols are reviewed regularly and kept up to date.Furthermore you will be involved in the departments training of pre-registration optometrists, medical students and other health professionals.CPD is actively promoted within the department and time is provided for administrative duties. A degree/diploma in Orthoptics and registration with the HPC is essential.
