The Role & Responsibilities
  • Oversee and challenge the banks operational risk registers, incident log and loss database
  • Second line responsibility for the policy and control framework to support effective and proportionate Risk management
  • Provide oversight, challenge and production of the Banks Top Risks, Tail Risks, management actions, heat maps and KRIs
  • Provide support and challenge to the level two Operational Risk owners in the design, development, implementation and testing of the policy and control frameworks to support each risk
  • Support the Head of Operational Risk in the design, development and delivery of key risk scenarios to support the Banks Total Operational Risk Regulatory Capital requirement and support the delivery of the Banks ICAAP
  • Provide effective operational risk oversight of the Banks key change programmes and business change
  • Review loss events for operational weaknesses and make recommendations to reduce or mitigate risks identified
  • Maintain and review Operational Risk policy, procedures and model inventories
  • Undertake controls assurance testing to ensure adherence to policy
  • Work with departmental heads in reporting KRIs for each function
  • Assess the robustness and effectiveness of Risk Management framework and support the on-going embedding of an effective risk management framework
The Person
  • Degree level qualification in mathematics, science, engineering, business, economics or similar discipline OR equivalent experience
  • Risk or associated qualifications desirable
  • Good understanding of business processes and ability to recommend changes to the business, as well as being able to produce documents to specify business requirements where necessary.
  • Good understanding of developing operational risk appetite
  • Preference will be given to candidates with additional experience of supporting the design and implementation of Key Risk Scenarios and the integration into the Banks ICAAP
  • The Bank prefers practical experience of setting a clear and proportionate information security control framework
  • Good understanding of risk related concepts
  • 3 years experience working in financial services at a manager level role
  • Computer literate (good knowledge of MS Office suiteExcel, Word, Power-Point)
  • Excellent operational risk knowledge including risk event reporting, risk and control assessments and key risk scenarios
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills
  • Basel II experience desirable
  • Ability to explain rationale for decisions
  • Ability to deliver constructive feedback with clear development requirements
  • Good influencing skills
