Job Description

Can your modelling skills help make the world a better place for future generationsOur client based in central Birmingham is part of a network of elite technology and innovation centres set up by Innovate UK. The ESC works with companies that are focused on exploiting the opportunities created by the need to transform global energy systems;not only playing a part in accelerating technology-based solutions, but also engaging with Government to address the market mechanisms and business models that will be required to enable such solutions.such solutions.They are looking for a talented and motivated modelling analyst to join their growing Modelling team. Their suite of modelling tools includes ESME (national modelling), EnergyPath Networks (city/local area) and Home Energy Dynamics (buildings). You willexpect to work across these tools, focusing initially on the local and national modelling tools. Alongside model use, work will include improving model inputs and analysis techniques as well as interpretation of model outputs, development of insights fromthem and communication of results.You will enjoy working in a fast moving and changing environment at the cutting edge of innovation. You will be able to apply your analytical skills to work collaboratively in analysing complex whole system problems. You will be passionate about Energy andClimate Change and able to work independently and within teams on a wide variety of projects.Key Work ActivitiesWhat credentials are we ideally looking for

  • Relevant degree (STEM)
  • Understanding of the interactions between different energy vectors in the context of the wider energy system.
  • Experience in using a variety of software packages such as Excel, SQL, Python and Visual Basic.
  • Experience in data analysis and manipulation and automating data processing using programming languages, such as Python, Matlab, R and/or C.
  • Excellent numeracy skills - comfortable analysing and manipulating large data sets with an ability to explain complex analysis and issues to others
  • Previous experience in data analysis and /or modelling.
  • Self-motivated with ability to take initiative.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and responds positively to changing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Taking ownership of work and managing this effectively and efficiently.
  • Open to change and adapts well to setbacks or pressurised situations.
  • Supportive, positive and constructive in relation to your work with colleagues and external organisations.
Desirable skills
  • Client-facing experience perhaps gained from a consultancy background.
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Energy sector knowledge or experience would be an advantage
Candidates will obviously have a passion for the use of renewable energy.The role is based Birmingham and we envisage that that you would be expected to attend the office one or two days a week with the rest working from home, its an agile working pattern you can pick your hours as long as the work gets done!Salary is around £30,000 plus benefits.To find out more or for a confidential chat - please send your CV to Gary Simpson
