My clients in the West Midlands have an immediate requirement for a Mechanical Design Engineer - Medical Devices.This role is commutable from Wolverhampton, Tamworth, Coventry, Birmingham, Solihull, Bromsgrove, Redditch.My clients are a technology company developing innovative solutions for the medical and ophthalmic industries world-wide. The current team comprises a highly motivated mix of R&D, engineering, sales, finance and management and has a track record of developingrapid solutions for commercial and research partners.The successful candidate will: Develop and document mechanical designs using CAD tools. Be able to produce professional engineering drawings, bills of materials and specifications for suppliers and sub-contractors. Design for manufacture and assembly. As part of a collaborative R&D team, develop concepts and prototypes of electro-mechanical, electro optical assemblies of medical devices with a specialism towards eye-tracking and ophthalmic lens mapping technology. Develop control and testing systems/software/algorithms for prototypes. Contribute to mechanical, electrical and/or optical designs. Use rapid prototyping/rapid manufacturing for interactive design development. Ensure the devices meet required safety and regulatory requirements as appropriate and all documentation requirements. Work with clinicians and scientists for clinical trials of products. Write/contribute to documents for the device Technical File where appropriate. Support patent applications where appropriate. Support, from a technical perspective, products during the life cycle of the device. Develop calibration tests for manufacture. Implement a best practice culture of development in line with ISO 13485 continuous improvement principles.Person Requirements: Graduate (or with equivalent experience) Mechanical Engineer, Physicist or similar. PhD would be a strong advantage. High degree of mechanical aptitude and hands-on ability, attention to detail. Experience modelling components, assemblies & systems using Solidworks or other CAD package. Ability to understand technical drawings, technical documentation and data sheets Substantial experience within a multidisciplinary Research and Development environment, ideally working on medical devices. Ability to be a technical authority on a system or sub-system and provide guidance to the rest of team. A hands on approach to developing and delivering R&D projects in line with the companies technical and commercial goals. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to use scientific principles and methods to understand, test, and resolve technical problems that may lie beyond the normal scope of day to day engineering and a high degree of mathematical acumen Professional use of Microsoft packagesincluding Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to work in isolation and as part of a wider team.
