Job Description

Licensing Officer We are recruiting for a Licensing Officer (HMO) for our well established client in Birmingham.As a Licensing Officer you will need to have/be:

  • Knowledge of Housing Legislation relating to the Private Rented Sector, including the Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to take minutes, write grammatically correct correspondence and standard reports
  • Able to organise and co-ordinate your work to meet targets and deadlines
  • Be committed to equal opportunities in all aspects of the role
  • Prioritise your own workload and that of the team in order to meet pre-set deadlines
  • Details:
  • Pay Rate: £14.19 per hour
  • Working Hours: Monday - Friday
  • Location: Birmingham
  • Duration: Temporary until end of March 2021
  • Role of a Licensing Officer:
  • Give advice to the tenants, landlords and agents on the Licensing process
  • To operate agreed HMO Licensing procedures
  • Determine the correct category of HMO, and assess the appropriate licence conditions
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of the agreed procedures
  • Inspect HMOs using the approved forms under Part 1 of the Housing Act 2004
  • Prepare letters and Notices to require works under the legislation
  • Responsible for the thorough investigation of possible breaches of HMO licensing
  • Deal with all appropriate aspects of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984
  • To compile and submit responses to appeals to the Residential Property Tribunal (RPT), and appeals to the RPT for Rent Repayment Orders
  • Act as the Directorates representative in Court actions brought under the legislation
