This partnership will see new levels of dynamism and a rapid pace of innovation.As part of this exciting transformation, we are launching a brand-new Digital Product function within our business to help us create a best-in-class member experience, supported with increased investment and a structured programme of activities to accelerateour digital strategy.About the roleThe RAC Digital Development Team are now looking to recruit a Lead Software Engineer, on a permanent basis, located in Walsall.Reporting directly into the Digital Development & Delivery Manager, your role will be to operate as part of a cross functional product squad, creating, maintaining, supporting and improving software solutions with the RAC Digital estate which drive customerbenefit and value. You can expect to be working on the back-end services and engines that sit behind the main RAC E-Commerce website. This is a fantastic role for someone who has a strong understanding on agile software development methodologies and lookingto focus on their development and career.Please note, our teams are currently working from home with plans to transition to a hybrid working model from the start of 2022 onwards, when colleagues will return to the office up to 3 days per week, so must be in a commutable distance to our Bristolsite.Role Purpose

  • Actively participate in the creation and support of a collaborative and effective team ethic and environment
  • Work with cross functional squad members to deliver highest quality work in accordance with timelines and requirements
  • Take ownership of own specialism within the product squad, acting as the SME where necessary
  • Adhere to RAC to best practice doctrine, agile frameworks and process, including active participation in peer reviews and scrum ceremonies
  • Adoption of design principles to ensure our platforms deliver value and are scalable for a growing membership base
  • Positively identify risks, document code and evangelise knowledge sharing across both the individual squad and the wider Digital team.
  • Implementation of requirements using Minimum Viable Product techniques
  • Close collaboration with DevOps, Content and leadership to ensure clear and concise communication is maintained
Skills & Experience
  • Understanding of agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures
  • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle and product development
  • Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision and with other department personnel in a very dynamic and timeline sensitive work environment
  • Exceptional communication, organisation, and time management skills
  • Minimum 5 years commercial back-end development experience in C# or equivalent language
  • Experience of API creation and Microservice Architecture
  • Experience of Database technologies particularly MySQL
  • Experience line managing a small team desirable
