Job Description

Job Purpose:The Hosting and Storage Engineer is responsible for the technical delivery and support of on-prem and hosted/cloud based systems including Microsoft server technologies, Active Directory, VMWare (V5.x+), Hyper V, Citrix, Azure, O365 along with hardware platforms (including HPe, NetApp, MS StorSimple & Cisco Hyperflex) ; offering technical support including on-call support (Rota) 24x7, meeting operational, project and initiative needs.The role requires an individual that can work competently across a range of technical areas within the team, ensuring that operational issues are dealt with within a timely and accurate fashion and any solutions comply with all relevant policies, architecture and standards.The successful candidate will contribute to the development, optimisation and adherence of operational processes, toolsets and procedures, and actively participate in BAU operations, Projects, & standard ITIL functions. The Engineer will have the skills to carry out complex technical tasks and possesses the knowledge to confidently deal with issues and requests from both internal and external customers, offering suitable advice in a professional manner.Responsibilities: Provide technical capability, support and maintenance for our supported platforms across the Interserve Group including the delivery and documentation of the following:

  • Technical Support including on-call (on rota basis)
  • Operational, initiative and project-based activities
  • Information Security compliance
  • Capacity and availability management
  • System level performance management
  • Obsolescence management
  • Patch, vulnerability and anti-virus management
  • Technical design and implementation
  • Backup & Disaster recovery management/capability
  • Operating system hardening
  • Knowledge & Experience
  • Demonstrable technical qualification or training certification associated with Information Technology.
  • Vocational experience, minimum of two years in an enterprise sized environment.
  • Previous experience in a similar support/services role, within a large commercial environment.
  • Excellent Active Directory skills including Powershell.
  • Preferable to have VCP 5/VCP6 and MCSE or Azure Administrator Associate qualification.
  • Experience of working with Wintel, Azure, O365, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, Exchange, Hyper V, VMware, Citrix / RDS & Linux systems support environment.
  • Experience with MECM / SCCM / SCOM, SolarWinds, Defender ATP, McAfee, WSUS, HPe SIM, Enterprise Vault.
  • Experience with Storage platforms including NetApp, MS StorSimple and cloud storage.
  • Preferable experience of server hardening techniques such as CIS and NSCS frameworks.
  • Can demonstrate ability to take technical ownership of a problem or requirement.
  • Understanding of ITIL methodologies and is ideally qualified to ‘foundation’ level.
  • Can demonstrate a keen awareness of the key business processes within the industry and how the current systems deliver and support these processes.
  • Is able to effectively balance the demands of quality with project time constraints and devise imaginative and innovative solutions to issues that may arise.
  • Can identify goals & objectives.
  • Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal, communication, influencing & negotiation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-Technical audiences of all levels using various forms of communication.

  • Specific Skills & Abilities:
  • Provide technical design input and architecture proposals to improve the existing Wintel Server infrastructure services, thereby improving efficiency, effectiveness and minimising costs.
  • Provide specialist technology skills, working with other teams to ensure the smooth implementation of new technologies and services.
  • Work with service delivery & other key IT teams to ensure the delivery into production of new or upgraded Wintel server/service changes are carried out according to agreed quality processes and schedules.
  • Ensure support processes are defined and continuously reviewed, appropriate documentation created, and training requirements are identified. Where appropriate prepare and deliver cross team training
  • Manage infrastructure assets ensuring the correct balance of proactive & reactive maintenance, to deliver optimum service levels.
  • Work with asset management team in the area of software licence control & hardware asset management.
  • Personal development - has ownership of and is responsible for.
  • Adopt & adhere to industry best practices.
  • Occasional travel to other Interserve Sites, unsociable hours & overnight stays where appropriate.
