Job Description

One of the Largest Transportation consultancies in the UK are looking for a Highways Engineer to join their Midlands team, you will be given the opportunity to work on some of the most nationally significant in the UK including HS2 Phase 2A and the A14 £1.5billion upgrade with National Highways.Their office locations are Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham and you can work from any of them twice a week and the rest from home to suit your work life balance. When working a as a Highways Engineer in this consultancy you will be expected to be part ofa team that are working on a range of highways projects within major frameworks with National Highways, major D&B contractors and a huge amount of local authority major projects.The main part of your role as a Highways Engineer will to be focussed on detailed design of these major projects so previous experience of Civil 3D or OpenRoads and design of Alignments, Link Roads and Junctions is really desirable for this role. You willalso be liaising with the client and stakeholders regularly to effectively deliver these schemes. This role can offer fantastic training and mentoring towards your chartership with either the ICE or CIHT.Highways Engineer Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Project Team in designing highway schemes.
  • Preparing scheme drawings, from feasibility design through to detailed design.
  • Preparing or checking horizontal and vertical alignments in 3D models.
  • Ensuring tasks are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Co-ordinating the highway design process and integrating with other design disciplines within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Working alongside Clients and stakeholders on technical aspects of projects.
  • Keeping up-to-date with current methods and design guidelines.
Highways Engineer Essential Requirements
  • A degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • Appropriate previous experience of working in this field.
  • Ability to act on own initiative and operate in a proactive way.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and integrate into multi-disciplinary teams or work independently.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
  • Experienced in preparing drawings and reports.
  • Working towards professional qualifications.
Highways Engineer Desirable Requirements
  • Qualified Road Safety Auditor (Team Member / Observer).
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads.
  • Experience of drainage design.
  • Project Management experience and qualifications.
