Job Description

Role: Health and Safety ManagerLocation: Birmingham / Hybrid flexible working (Local office would be Birmingham)Salary: Up to £45,000 + 15% pension + bonus + qualification development + packageDuration: PermanentAs a Health and Safety Manager working with the Major Projects Directorate you will ensure delivery of the plan through project and programme strategy, adding value through positive intervention, challenging behaviour, influencing decision making and encouraginginnovation.You will primarily work with the Smart Motorway Programme and Smart Motorway Alliance to support safe delivery of significant investment on the motorway network. However, as part of the Health and Safety team you may be involved in supporting other majorprojects and schemes.You will use your knowledge, skills and experience to offer; support, advice and assurance on health and safety issues ensuring that as both employer and client we are fulfilling out duties and continuing to develop a positive health and safety culture.The role will involve working from one of our offices such Bristol, Birmingham or Guildford (other locations may be considered) with regular travel to Birmingham, as well as travelling to site and you will need to have a full clean driving licence for thisposition and during employment.What youll be leading on

  • Support implementation of business strategy and requirements in line with our health and safety plan.
  • Support development and implementation of relevant health and safety plans and initiatives to engage colleagues and ensure a consistent approach across the programme.
  • Undertake health and safety assurance activities in the pre-construction and construction phases of project delivery, including; design for safety reviews, site inspections, incident review.
  • Monitor and review health and safety performance and provide feedback to project and programme colleagues in the business area that bring insight, to shape business strategy and decision-making.
  • Support, advise and influence regional or programme colleagues on health and safety matters affecting safe delivery of projects.
  • Engage colleagues as champions of health, safety and wellbeing.
To be successful
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent desirable however NEBOSH General Certificate, as a minimum. The company would encourage you to continue with studies/professional development up to CMIOSH level.
  • Good knowledge of industry and health and safety legislation and its interpretation and health and safety practice in a client, infrastructure asset and employer context.
  • Experience implementing health and safety strategy and services into the regional business, preferably working for a major infrastructure asset owner or developer.
  • Experience of working at a regional or programme management level and leading health and safety teams.
  • Ability to develop and be part of a high performing team that builds an outstanding reputation for professionalism, objectivity, integrity and delivery of results.
  • Ability to communicate and influencing effectively at all organisational levels (including Senior Managers) and across all disciplines, both within the business and with external organisations.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and Client / Contractor relationships
