Job Description

Your new roleNational Highways is currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Audit Manager. This role will work to provide a responsive and helpful service to audit clients through a sound and professional evaluation of risk management, internal control and governancearrangements. This service will be delivered through the development of the annual health and safety audit plan that will form part of our annual assurance programme. This will include the requirement to plan, manage and monitor the delivery of health andsafety assurance across the organisation.This role will also work to support the Director of Corporate Assurance in their role to lead the business in improving its Health, Safety and Wellbeing governance, risk management and internal control.What youll be leading on

  • Accountability for end-to end-delivery of the health and safety audit programme.
  • Leading a small team of Senior H&S Auditors, supporting them and reviewing work through planning, fieldwork and reporting.
  • Using professional skills and judgement to develop robust reports and opinions that meet quality and professional standards.
  • Developing, managing and continuously improving the health, safety and wellbeing assurance approach.
  • Preparing progress updates to the Director of Corporate Assurance and other senior interested parties.
  • Acting as an independent advisor (where required), helping National Highways achieve its vision and objectives with regards to health, safety and wellbeing. This will be achieved by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to providing assurance, adviceand insight on the effectiveness of risk management, governance, compliance and internal control.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with senior clients and stakeholders, built on professional trust
To be successful
  • Degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent
  • Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) / prepared to work towards
  • Significant knowledge health and safety legislation, including but not limited to the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
  • Significant knowledge and experience of operational health and safety matters in construction or other high hazard environments
  • Excellent planning, organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build strong working relationships and maintain rapport, with stakeholders and staff at all levels, from diverse backgrounds, and with different technical understanding
  • Ability to lead the delivery of concurrent audits from designing an approach, planning and scoping, liaison with the business through fieldwork, to report issue and agreement of management actions.
