Job Description

£85k - £90k£350pm car allowanceIf you are: Agile enthusiast / Manager / Coach / Project Manager skilled / Technically minded / Customer focussed / process driven / Engaging. - then continue below:We are recruiting for a Head of service delivery who can support the delivery lifecycle from point of contract through initial delivery and the provision of ongoing services through the delivery lifecycle to contract renewal. We are looking for someone to be responsible for the delivery of application services, build key stakeholder relationships (including client facing) and train / coach agile methodologies throughout the project delivery team.As Head of service delivery, your primary responsibility is planning, leading, organising and motivating project teams to achieve a high level of performance and quality in delivering projects and associated services through the delivery lifecycle. You will be technically minded, prefferably with a background in programming or development.This company is a profitable and expanding business that has developed and implements a bespoke development platform. You will need to have solid Project management capability with experience delivering projects within an Agile framework.Your key responsibilities as Head of Service Delivery:

  • Mange, motivate and train the project delivery team (circa 20 heads) including project managers, dev team, product owners, QA testers.
  • Ensure projects come in on time and on budget.
  • Drive existing agile methodologies through the team including coaching and mentoring to ensure the principles of Scrum and Kanban are adhered to and optimised.
  • Share best practice across different project delivery teams.
  • Build solid customer relationships across other departments to support delivery where necessary.
  • Resource and capacity management planning to meet current in-flight requirements and planned growth
  • Identify risk and risk management strategies to mitigate
  • Provide regular and up-to-date management reporting for customer and internal stakeholder
  • The Head of Service Delivery job is perfect if you have:
  • Significant experience in delivering large scale and complex development projects to external customers
  • Excellent relationship building skills and experience - both with external customers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience setting up and/or managing a delivery structure for multidisciplinary teams including project managers, product owners, developers/builders and QA/test resources. The ability to manage remote and disparate teams/team members is now an imperative.
  • Experience coaching and leading teams’ in Agile practices - you are the Agile ambassador, with appropriate Agile qualifications and in role experience of delivering retrospectives, Scrums, and discovery workshops.
  • The ability to produce well written concise reports, be an expert in managing burndown charts and be able to use MS Office tools at a relatively advanced level for management purposes, reporting and presentations.
  • Experience of administering and using Jira and Confluence (or similar) to support the delivery process
  • The ability to actively address internal risks and issues and know when to escalate them to maintain delivery momentum. You know how to track, manage, escalate and communicate internal risks and dependencies. You understand how the risks, issues or dependencies impact the work of a team and can affect delivery, and act proactively to mitigate.
  • Experience in spotting problems or issues in the team dynamic and rectifying them. You actively engage in varying types of feedback, choosing the right type at the appropriate time and ensuring the discussion and decisions are followed through.
  • You are experienced and proficient in using MS Office tools including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint for proposals, reporting and presentations.
  • You may have experience of using Microsoft Project and Project Server for wider portfolio management
  • A development interest or experience in software development including web site design, and/or JavaScript skills would be of benefit.
  • Key attributes of a successful Head of Service Delivery:
  • Project Planning and Management - Defining project scope and schedule while focusing on regular and timely delivery of value; organise and lead project status and working meetings; prepare and distribute progress reports; manage risks and issues; manage and correct deviations from tolerance within the delivery plans; and perform delivery planning for assigned projects.
  • Team Management - Own team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work; leveraging organisational resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring and developing team members
  • Support the wider Delivery Team in managing customer expectations for project deliverables, managing stakeholder communications, and helping to implement an effective system of project governance
  • Process management and improvement - working with PMO, agree and manage a well-defined project management and customer success process and champion ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement best practices
  • Team building - promote empowerment of the team, ensure that each team member is fully engaged in the project and making a meaningful contribution, and encourage a sustainable pace with high-levels of quality across the wider Professional Services team.
