University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation TrustAre you an experienced and enthusiastic radiotherapy physicist with the skills and desire to lead the radiotherapy physics team at UHB We have a great opportunity for you. Our team comprises approximately 50 highly skilled staff delivering the physics activitieswhich are integral to the UHB radiotherapy service. We treat around 4500 new patients each year on the departments 9 accelerators, superficial x-ray and HDR systems. There are 5 Elekta Versa machines in the main department plus one in the adjacent HarborneHospital, 1 Cyberknife and - in the medium term - there will be 2 x RadiXact machines. Imaging is provided by 3 wide-bore CT scanners and -- in the short term -- an on-site MRI scanner.You should be experienced in leading and managing large teams of scientists and clinical technologists, and have a strong national and ideally international reputation in the area of radiotherapy physics. You must have the enthusiasm and personality to buildstrong and productive relationships with colleagues of all professions at UHB, in the Schools of Medicine and Physics in the University of Birmingham and with the other radiotherapy teams in the West Midlands.The Radiotherapy Physics service at UHB is one of 4 services of the Medical Physics department, the others being Radiotherapy Physics, Clinical Computer and Imaging Sciences and RRPPS. With the other Heads of Service, you will become a key member of theleadership team of Medical Physics at UHB.Standard DBS would be required.Main duties of the job1.1 be accountable for the provision of a safe and effective RTPS to the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust1.2 accountable for the direction and development of the service, including service re-configuration, taking into account national policies and standards and in support of the Trusts policies and objectives1.3 implement the UHB personal development and review system (PDRS) for RTPS staff and ensure that the training and development needs of all staff are regularly monitored and assessed, so that they can maintain appropriate State Registration by participationin an approved CPD scheme1.4 support the RPA in ensuring that the services of the RPA, Qualified Persons and Site Officers are properly discharged according to the requirements of the appropriate legislation and national guidance.1.5 support and advise the Trust in discharging its duties as the Employer under IRMER 2017.1.6 be accountable for Clinical Governance in the RTPS.1.7 represent the Department and the Trust by participating in national and/or international organisations dedicated to improving and/or developing the disciplines of medical physics, health physics and radiation oncology1.8 communicate sensitive or contentious information to national or international bodies (eg Care Quality Commission, Department of Health, Cancer Research UK, International Atomic Energy Agency, UK and overseas granting institutions)For a full list of main duties please refer to the job description.About usWe are recognised as one of the leading NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK.
