Job Description

Your new roleNational Highways is currently recruiting for a Government Relations Advisor. This role is based in the Government Relations team and is responsible for assisting in the development and ongoing management of National Highways relationship with the Departmentfor Transport and wider government. Your work will enable National Highways to engage effectively with government to shape and influence decisions related to or impacting on the Strategic Road Network.Your new role will support National Highways formal engagement with the Department for Transport and wider government, facilitating a regular cycle of meetings involving both ministers and senior officials. Your role will be to manage these high-profilemeetings, ensuring that agendas are agreed, and the products required to support discussions are available in good time and to the required quality. This will require you to build and maintain effective relationships with a range of Department for Transportofficials as well as colleagues across National Highways.You will also support the Head of Government Relations and Government Relations Team Leader in overseeing National Highways wider relationship with government. This will include overseeing the teams communications with, and flow of information to and fromthe Department for Transport. You will also assist with the resolution of high priority issues and requests from the Department for Transport and wider government.What youll be leading on1. Build and maintain strong working relationships with a range of Department for Transport officials to support the effective delivery of National Highways formal engagement cycle with the Department and wider government.2. Build and maintain an effective network across National Highways to support the teams work in managing National Highways relationship with the Department for Transport and wider government.3. Assist in managing National Highways formal cycle of engagement with the Department for Transport and wider government. Planning and agreeing agendas, commissioning and preparing papers and liaising effectively to enable high quality conversations totake place.4. Maintain knowledge and strategic awareness of issues that may impact the relationship with government, through actively maintaining and encouraging regular dialogue with key business areas and undertaking proactive challenge as required.5. Oversee the Government Relations Teams communication with and flow of information to and from the Department of Transport.6. Support the Head of Government Relations and Team Leader with the resolution of issues and requests from the Department for Transport and wider government.To be successful Evidence of having built and maintained relationships with a range of senior colleagues and / or stakeholders Stakeholder management and influencing skills and the confidence to challenge others, including senior colleagues, where necessary Knowledge of working with Government and/or operating in highly scrutinised, monitored/regulated environment. Organised, with an ability to multi-task across different areas of work simultaneously, prioritising your own work effectively. Ability to present information clearly and appropriately, adapting your approach to suit the audience and the information being communicated. Ability to quickly master complex information.
