Job Description

We have been instructed to recruit a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join a dynamic Finance team based in Birmingham City Centre paying up to £28,000. In this critical role, you will play a key part in ensuring theaccuracy, timeliness, and efficiency of our financial processes, while providing valuable insights to support informed decision-making across the company. Hybrid working is on offer with the requirement to be in the office only twice a week!Assistant Accountant Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and maintain monthly management packs, ensuring they reflect a true and accurate financial position.
    • Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and other regulatory filings, adhering to relevant compliance requirements.
    • Develop and maintain budgets and forecasts, analysing variances and proactively identifying potential issues.
  • Cashflow Management:
    • Monitor cashflow on a daily basis, identifying and promptly resolving any discrepancies.
    • Prepare detailed cashflow forecasts to support key business decisions.
  • Financial Compliance:
    • Maintain financial records in accordance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
    • Prepare accurate and timely HMRC returns, ensuring they are filed within deadlines.
    • Ensure financial transactions and year-end statements comply with the Group Accounting Manual and relevant reporting frameworks.
  • Process Efficiency:
    • Utilise Finance systems and processes effectively, maintaining adherence to team manuals and policies.
    • Continuously identify and implement opportunities for streamlining and improving efficiency.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proven ability to analyse financial data and generate insightful reports.
  • Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Excel and other relevant accounting software.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with commercial transactions and contract accounting.
  • Understanding of relevant tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
