Job Description

Are you looking for your next Facilities Maintenance Assistant positionIf you have experience as a skilled or time served trades person; a background in engineering, retirement living and knowledge of large buildings, we would like to speak to you.New Oscott Retirement Village is part of the Extracare Charitable Trust and consists of 260 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The Village hosts excellent facilities including:- Café Bar, Craft Room, Gym with Steam Room, Enriched Opportunities Suite (to support residents living with dementia), Freemans Quiet Lounge, Greenhouse, Indoor Bowling Green, IT Suite, Guest Suite, Hairdressing and Beauty Salon, Laundry, Library, Restaurant, Village Hall, Village Shop, Well-being Suite and Well-being Bathroom, Woodwork Room, Communal Parking and Landscaped Garden

  • Hours:37.5 hours per week
  • Rate of Pay: £22,035
  • Our Facilities Management Assistant will provide a dedicated maintenance service at New Oscott Retirement Village. We offer 33 days annual leave (pro rata for part time) annum, plus an excellent benefits package which includes free on-site gym membership, cycle2work scheme, attendance vouchers and refer a friend bonus.What will you do as our Facilities Management Assistant
  • To carry out user tests, cyclical, preventive and repairs maintenance, and arrange access for contractors to carry out maintenance at the Village.
  • Carry out a handy-person service for the residents, as directed by the Cluster manager. Anything from picture hanging to assembling flat pack furniture.
  • Undertake preventive maintenance duties in the resident’s apartments and in the communal areas
  • Be proactive in the management of void properties, ensure water quality checks and general repairs are undertaken.
  • Work with contractors on site to improve own knowledge of systems and to ensure that they are working to risk assessments provided.
  • Record repair requests and defects.
  • Attend site on a rota basis in the event of an emergency situation outside of your normal working hours
  • Person Specification:
  • Ideally a facilities background from either Care or Retirement living
  • Flexibility to cover weekends on a rota
  • To carry out the cyclical, preventive and repairs maintenance, and arrange access for contractors to carry out the cyclical, preventive and repairs maintenance at the Village as directed by the Cluster Contracts Manager.
  • To have empathy with older people as you will be working regularly with them to continually improve the maintenance service.
  • To take responsibility for the repairs and maintenance service with your team onsite
  • Have a working knowledge of MS Word and Excel to maintain a system for logging maintenance requests
  • Be reliable, punctual and able to work unsupervised
  • Previously have worked in the maintenance or building services industry and assessed as competent with respect to mechanical / electrical / Fabric maintenance activities
  • Able to demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Committed to health and safety
  • Desirable City & Guilds Electrical or Mechanical Certification
  • Desirable to have COSHH training certification, water treatment training and manual handling
