Job Description

Your New role:We have a fantastic opportunity for a Capability Manager to join our Rail business. The role can be flexibly located and will require a blend of home-working and travel to our offices and projects.The role sits within the Performance & Assurance function of our Rail business. The Rail Capability Manager will be focused on managing internal rail training delivery, and leading on competence and fatigue management processes, systems and compliance.Together, these elements of training, competence and fatigue play a vital part in delivering frontline and management capability to enable Amey to deliver its broad portfolio of rail projects across the UK.The standard hours of work are 37.5 per week.You will be responsible for:

  • Assess and report on compliance with competence and fatigue management requirements across Rail.
  • Report on compliance with Sentinel and other competence management systems.
  • Review performance, identify trends and escalate critical issues that require attention.
  • Lead the team of Rail trainers in the delivery of effective and value-adding training.
  • Provide additional training/assessment capacity and guidance.
  • Provide technical and work-winning support to the Rail business, incorporating solutions to support the development and growth of the business stream.
  • Support and advise on the implementation of competence and fatigue management processes and systems across Rail.
  • Develop, measure, monitor and report key performance indicators in competence and fatigue.
  • Be vigilant for opportunities to improve both system and process, to ensure that risk is mitigated effectively and compliance is maintained.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with the Group HR Shared Services team, project competence/fatigue co-ordinators, and other stakeholders across and external to the business, e.g. Sentinel, NSAR.
  • Collaborate to ensure good practice is identified, shared and adopted.

  • A sound understanding of technical competence management, and associated requirements, including of safety-critical competences.
  • A sound understanding of the importance of fatigue management, and associated requirements.
  • Good communication, influencing, teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Experience of working in detail with (operating and improving) management systems, business processes and enterprise IT systems.
  • Formal trainer/assessor qualification (ideal but not essential).
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant business or technical discipline.
  • Operational or management experience in Rail, or similar regulated industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in quality and continuous improvement.
