Job Description

Buyer sought by an automotive parts distributor who has been supplying to the motor trade for over 20 years. Backed by exceptional customer service and the highest levels of availability, they are firmly established as a leading supplierto the UK aftermarket.The Role:Reporting to thePurchasing Manager, you will be responsible for sourcing equipment, goods, services and managing vendors as well as assisting the Purchasing Manager on the day to day buying activities. The successful candidate will be able to perform strategicprocurement activities across multiple categories of spend. Your key duties will include:

  • Forecast levels of demand for services and products ensuring order logs are reviewed monthly and ad hoc orders looked at daily
  • Buying responsibility across the business: automotive products (steering racks, callipers, drive shafts etc), tools, packaging, office supplies down to hygiene products
  • Supporting the Procurement function in delivering the most effective procurement strategy
  • Managing suppliers to improve quality and on time delivery. Ensuring all orders are placed in a timely manner and orders followed up to make sure delivery is on time
  • Being the go-to person for supplier related issues
  • Sourcing of materials for production
  • Conduct research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
  • Liaising heavily with various stakeholders – both internal and external to ensure the availability of materials for production
  • Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
  • Evaluate bids and make recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
  • Using strong Excel skills to maintain and update spreadsheets is essential
The successful Buyer will demonstrate:
  • 2 years’ experience in buying
  • Manufacturing or engineering experience would be preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure and make correct decisions
  • Be competent using Outlook, Word and in particular Excel
  • Ability to build relationships with suppliers
