Job Description

Are you inquisitive, creative and a collaborative worker Do you believe there is no box for you to think outside of Are you able to keep seeking solutions to problems and overcoming obstacles If you said yes to these questions, you may be an ideal candidatefor the West Midlands Trains Engineering Apprenticeship scheme.We operate two railway brands across the Midlands, the North West and London carrying over 60 million passengers a year.As one of our Apprentice Engineers, youll be responsible for servicing mechanical and electrical systems on our trains, offering highly varied activities. The types of things you will be involved in, could be repairing, overhauling and modifying our trains,inspecting bodywork and under-carriages for wear and tear, writing reports and maintenance records. Our trailblazing apprentices have spoken to audiences of local and national Politicians, Members of Parliament and have also appeared on nationaltelevision!Join us and not only will you become part of a renowned group of professionals, you will also gain specialist and transferable skills, as well as a wide variety of career progression opportunities in our business.Working Week - 37hrs Mon-Fri 8:45am-5:00pm with the first year at collegeWhat training can you expect to receiveAs a West Midlands Trains Engineering Apprentice, you will undertake a mix of classroom and vocational training which will lead to you gaining a competence-based rail qualification and a knowledge based rail qualification (i.e., Technical Certificate). Thiswill be based at BMets James Watt Campus (Aldridge Road, Great Barr, B44 8NE).In addition to the above, you will be fortunate enough to undertake part of your training at the state of the art National Training Academy for Rail which offers our Apprentices the use of cutting-edge technology while you learn.All of the above will enable you to work alongside our award-winning team Technicians and Engineers and gain an exciting and rewarding career in Engineering.To be successful in your application, you will need to demonstrate:
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C/4 or above (or equivalent qualifications) which must include Maths (at B/6 or above), English and Science
  • Customer focused
  • Polite, friendly and excellent team player
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to use own initiative when appropriate and take an active part in problem solving
  • High standard of personal presentation
  • Numerate and literate
  • Computer literate
