Job Description

CTP - Applications Analyst Salary: £35,844 to £40,731 plus an allowance of £1,639. You will receive £35,844 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £40,731 will be via incremental progression.Location: BirminghamKeep our applications running - and keep the nation safeWhen it comes to protecting the country, effective IT systems are vital. As an Applications Analyst, youll work with an extensive secure network that supports National Police IT. Its a chance to support business-critical systems that enable officersto deal with ever-changing threats. Join us in an IT role like no other, where youll play your part in keeping the public safe. Thanks to fast-evolving technology, new applications are being developed for policing all the time. Your task will be to help support this growing area as part of a 2nd line support function. Day-to-day, youll follow incidents from start to resolution,and act as an escalation point for Application-related issues. Meanwhile, youll monitor components such as web servers, applications servers, log files, disk space and MS-SQL databases. Your role will also see you maintaining middleware such as IIS and ActiveDirectory and supporting COTS and WEB-based software applications. And all while working closely with suppliers, stakeholders and vendors.We want you to take the initiative when it comes to good working practices and processes. So youll need experience of ITIL processes, incident management, change management and meeting SLAs. Your technical talents should cover application back-up, restores,Application Disaster Recovery (ADR), Application languages (such as SQL and .Net) and Service Management Tools. With this expertise, youll feel confident solving problems and performing root cause analysis. Customer focus is just as important, and you shouldalways keep the needs of your various contacts in mind.If you can combine people skills with strong IT literacy, we can offer you an exciting role in a supportive team. The applications in our portfolio are mostly bespoke but well make sure you get first-class training, an excellent work/life balance and thechance to build your skills.This role does however require a flexible working approach, and you may at times be required to travel to sites around the UK as appropriate, as well as working on-call.Key TasksThe post holder will be required to do the following:

  • Working within a service team monitoring components such as web servers, applications servers, log files, disk space and MS-SQL databases.
  • A point of escalation for all Application related issues within the Applications and Data Team.
  • Working as part of a second line support function following incident management through to incident resolution. Natural problem solving with ability to apply previous experience to new problems working towards route cause analysis.
  • Working with third party suppliers, stakeholders and departmental ICT teams to assist in delivering patch/release of applications while coordinating vendor support.
  • Maintaining middleware such as; IIS, MS-SQL Server, Active Directory, ASP and. NET, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, basic querying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Daily support of COTS and WEB based software applications with an emphasis on the ability to problem solve.
  • Strong customer focus - understanding the needs of the internal and external customer and keeping them in mind when taking actions or making decisions.
VettingThis post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event thatpotential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties.
