Job Description

Are you a production professional looking for your next challenge in a books focused roleWe have an exciting opportunity for a Books Production Coordinator to join our team. We’re all still working from home but this role can be fully remote longer term, depending on your location.Who Are Emerald:Emerald Publishing is a global publisher linking research and practice. Part of Emerald Group, a global learning organisation, with a presence in 130 countries worldwide.Role & Team:The Books Production Coordinator has overall management of a portfolio of books in line with Emerald’s standards of timely publication, quality, customer service, and cost control. Using first line manager skills you will train and support the offshore book Supplier Project Managers in day-to-day activities, including system support, on-time processing of books, problem solving, and effective communication to authors and book editors. Alongside this you will support the Production Manager and Head of Production in delivering a programme of strategic change across the portfolio in line with wider department and business objectivesYou will be working in partnership with external vendors and internal and external product stakeholders, providing expert advice and guidance.What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Train, coach, and support the offshore book supplier project managers in the day-to-day activities of book production
  • Monitoring the books front list and liaising with internal stakeholders to obtain new titles by agreed deadlines
  • Completing an in-house proofing review before author proofs, and a final proof prior to publication.
  • Actively monitoring vendor performance and providing constructive feedback.
  • Analysing errors, identifying trends, and suggesting solutions to improve quality standards.
  • Participating in continuous improvement events including projects, workshops, and Kaizens to help improve workflows, processes and policies.
  • Communicating effectively to provide excellent customer service for authors, series editors, and vendors.
  • Championing best practice and consistency of process with vendors and Emerald colleagues

  • Experience of coaching, negotiating with confidence, and training or mentoring others.
  • We’re also looking for someone with the ability to work to deadlines, advanced organisation, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Equally valued in this role is conflict resolution and the ability to resolve editorial conflicts and disputes.
  • In addition, relevant industry experience is highly desirable.
