Role Overview An opportunity has arisen in the Belfast Legal Department within the Securities Services business. This is a professional role and will involve reviewing and analysing legal documentation and providing legal advice to support a number of businesses across theSecurities Services franchise, including Citis Custody and Agency Securities Lending businesses. The role will primarily involve negotiating legal agreements with external facing clients and counterparties to ensure documentation complies with Citibanks policies and procedures and applicable legal requirements. The successful individual will work closelywith Product, Sales, Relationship, Implementation Managers and the Citi Legal department. Team Overview Citis Legal Department in Belfast is a team of approximately 120 staff, covering a range of products and services across Citis EMEA region. The Belfast Legal Department provides a range of services, support and advice to many business areas; incorporatingtransaction negotiation, master agreement negotiation, and oversight of compliance and regulatory requirements. The role will involve an active engagement with the business, principally out of Belfast, but there will also be daily interaction with the restof the EMEA region. Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of legal documentation with internal and external customers to reach agreement on the contents of same, through telephonic or electronic negotiation, and in line with the Securities Services negotiation guidelineswhere applicable.
  • Documentation includes Citis suite of custody services agreements and ancillary documentation in addition to securities lending authorization agreements, Global Master Securities Lending Agreements (GMSLA) and Global Master Repurchase Agreements (GMRA).
  • Understanding the various legal and regulatory requirements of the Securities Services business and providing legal support in respect of same.
  • Ensuring that processes and administrative tasks that fall within the responsibility of the legal team are carried out efficiently and effectively. This includes drafting documents, arranging execution, reviewing client signing authority, ensuring thatall documentation requirements have been met for account opening approval and lodging all documents appropriately.
  • Building relationships with various internal stakeholders such as local legal counsels, product, risk, relationship managers and implementation contacts.
  • Liaising with business, implementations, and relationship managers to ensure that deal deadlines are met, and appropriately managing business expectations.
  • Advising business, risk and relationship managers on the potential legal risks involved in changing documentation.
  • Ensuring Citibanks policies are maintained, and where deviations are necessary, ensuring appropriate risk and / or business approval is obtained.
  • Maintain accurate status reports on negotiation developments within the team and exercise best practice in documentation management, negotiation and execution.
  • Providing assistance, guidance and training to other team members to aid development and knowledge sharing across the teams.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc and bespoke legal queries that the team are instructed on by the business.

  • The successful candidate will be instrumental in providing legal support and gaining experience in a wide range of product documentation in Securities Services across a multitude of jurisdictions within the EMEA region.
Knowledge / Experience / Skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced corporate legal department, law firm, financial services or related industry.
  • Proven analytical and organisational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to seek and understand instructions from the relevant business stakeholder.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and practices relevant to the product areas and banking/ financial services industry.
  • Exhibits confidence and agility in challenging times, and can effectively manage a busy workload comprising work from different financial product areas.
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and competing priorities

  • The successful candidate must have a high-quality academic record including a Bachelors/ University degree qualification in the relevant discipline of law or equivalent. Post Qualification experience will be advantageous.
