Job Description

Locum Band 6 Ward-Based Stroke and Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist - Bath - £28 p/hWe are looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work on the Ward in a general rehabilitation setting to treat stroke/rehab patients.3 days a week between Mon-Fri 9am - 5pm for 3 months to cover maternity leave.There may be a requirement for ad-hoc visits to patients at their home so car driver/owner would be ideal but not required.The successful candidate will play a key role in providing comprehensive occupational therapy services to individuals recovering from stroke and other neurological conditions, promoting independence and enhancing their overall quality of life.Assessment and Rehabilitation Planning:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of individuals with stroke and neurological conditions to determine their functional abilities, limitations, and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop individualized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, setting realistic and achievable goals.
Occupational Therapy Interventions:
  • Provide evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to address physical, cognitive, and psychosocial challenges.
  • Implement rehabilitation strategies focusing on activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, and community reintegration.
Adaptive Equipment and Assistive Technology:
  • Evaluate the need for and prescribe adaptive equipment and assistive technology to enhance independence in daily activities.
  • Provide training to individuals and their caregivers on the use of prescribed devices.
Cognitive Rehabilitation:
  • Conduct cognitive assessments and implement cognitive rehabilitation interventions to address deficits in memory, attention, and executive functioning.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop cognitive compensatory strategies.
Community Integration:
  • Work with individuals to set goals related to community participation and engagement.
  • Facilitate community reintegration by addressing barriers and promoting confidence in navigating daily environments.
Education and Support:
  • Provide education and support to individuals and their families on rehabilitation strategies, coping mechanisms, and community resources.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care.
Progress Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Regularly assess and document individuals progress towards rehabilitation goals.
  • Modify rehabilitation plans based on ongoing assessments and feedback.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, speech therapists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated care.
  • Participate actively in ward rounds and team meetings.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with the relevant occupational therapy regulatory body.
  • Significant experience in stroke and neuro-rehabilitation within a ward-based setting.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based practice in stroke and neuro-rehabilitation.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
