Integrated/Cross Sector Apprentice Pre-Registration Pharmacy TechnicianThis is a new role training as an apprentice to be a registered Pharmacy Technician both in primary and secondary care – in Minerva Primary Care Network and with Royal United Hospitals Bath. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in a pharmacy career to ‘earn while they learn’ in different NHS settings to complete a qualification and register as a Pharmacy Technician. You will be employed by BEMS GP Federation on behalf of Minerva and the RUH.ABOUT THE TEAMPharmacy Technicians have a variety of roles which you will undertake during your training. You will be supported by the experienced Pharmacy Training Team at the RUH and pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the Minerva Primary Care Network. The Minerva Primary Care Network operates across several GP practices and care homes. They are based in Bath city and cover 5 practices. Minerva and the RUH are keen to deliver this training programme with new roles for Pharmacy Technicians developing in primary care.WHAT YOU’LL DOFor your apprenticeship there is a programme of study days and on the job training. The training provider is Bradford College and details can be found on their site. You will rotate around the various areas of pharmacy such as dispensary, aseptic services, on the wards completing medicines. You will spend 50% of the 2-year programme on placement in Minerva PCN supporting the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for example with prescription queries and medicines reconciliation for patients recently discharged from hospital. You will be required to travel for this role, usually either at the hospital all day or based in one or more GP practices each day. The variety of the training programme is something current apprentices appreciate as well as the career opportunities registration as a Pharmacy Technician brings.WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FORYou must have 4 GCSE passes including Maths, English and 2 Sciences, you need to be committed to learning and completing coursework to deadlines. You must be able to work accurately, communicate effectively and be confident to move between teams regularly. An interest in the Pharmacy profession is key, for example currently working in Community or Hospital Pharmacy would be beneficial but not essential.WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOUYou will be able to access the NHS Pension scheme, you will be part of a pilot in Bath but that has been tested elsewhere in England. We will work with the successful candidate on how the 50/50 split will work practically.ABOUT US AND THE LOCAL AREAThe Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust provides acute treatment and care for a catchment population of around 500,000 people in Bath, and the surrounding towns and villages in North East Somerset and Western Wiltshire. The RUH provides 759 beds and a comprehensive range of acute services including medicine and surgery, services for women and children, accident and emergency services, and diagnostic and clinical support services. The RUH Pharmacy department is currently re-establishing itself with the vision of becoming recognised as an outstanding place to work, and as an organisation that works with partners. We have recognised the regional role this department can play in training and retaining pharmacy staff within the region, with cross-sector training and post-registration roles seen as a key step in this process. In time it is hoped that by building practice-based research capacity that BANES can contribute to national best practice on workforce development.Minerva Health Group (MHG) is a newly formed Primary Care Network of five BANES surgeries covering a population of 34,000.
