Job Description

The roleThis is an office-based role, working as part of a small, specialist team responsible for the import and export processes needed for road, air, courier and sea shipments for the business. Responsibility for the preparation and checking of both import & exportdocumentation, liaising with internal departments within the company as well as suppliers, customers and external parties such as courier companies and freight forwarders.The role will include the shipping of UK and US Export Controlled components which will come with additional compliance requirements.Our client is looking for someone who:

  • has held a similar role within a logistics/ shipping department, ideally in a busy manufacturing company
  • has a good understanding of import/export processes and is a natural problem solver
  • has either Export Control compliance knowledge or the desire to learn this aspect of the role
  • is organised and able to effectively multi-task to enable the completion of accurate paperwork to ensure the timely shipping and receiving of products for the business
Attributes and personal qualities required:
  • Desirable to be a member of a relevant professional body, such as Institute of Export & International Trade or The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Keen attention to detail, methodical, organised and thorough
  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against customer deadlines and requirements
  • Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel and ERP systems, with an aptitude for developing new skills
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of commercially sensitive information
Knowledge:
  • Commercial invoices/packing lists/certificates of origin (eCert and Manufacturer’s own)
  • Origin/preference rules in connection with International Trade Agreements
  • Import and Export customs entries, CPCs, document codes
  • AWBs, certificates of shipment, bills of lading
  • Tariff codes
  • Letters of Credit
  • Customs Special Procedures IP and OP
  • Knowledge of, or the willingness to learn, UK Export Control procedures including SPIRE
  • Knowledge of, or the willingness to learn, US Export Control regulations ITAR and EAR
Duties/responsibilities:
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and carriers to ensure all exports and imports are dealt with in an efficient manner
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities (e.g. HMRC) to ensure full compliance with applicable regulations
  • Coordinate with sales, despatch and purchasing offices
  • Administration of letters of credit
  • Deal with VAT and duty on the importation of goods, including Inward Processing Relief, duty deferment etc
  • Administration of all aspects of export control, including:
    • Liaising with customers to obtain End User Undertakings;
    • Obtaining export licences from regulatory authorities;
    • Maintaining accurate records of all export control activities;
    • Ensuring that all movements of goods comply with relevant export controls; and
    • Obtaining non-disclosure agreements from suppliers
  • Ensure export control is considered at all stages of business planning and development
  • Ensure all export risks are proactively identified and managed
  • Ability to knowledge share through training and mentoring
