Job Description

A manufacturer of cosmetic and personal care products are currently recruiting for a Development Chemist for their site based in South West England.Key responsibilities:

  • Formulate and develop cosmetic formulations in line with agreed briefs from customer or Technical Manager.
  • Maintain close awareness of scientific literature, raw materials, new technologies, processing methodology, and global marketing trends required to create exciting and relevant product innovation and present to Commercial and Innovation team.
  • Perform all laboratory work and data analysis and report in a timely manner and to a high standard, and in accordance with all relevant procedures, project plans and SOPs.
  • Manage stability, user trials, challenge tests, claim substantiation and all required external testing including potential third-party data.
  • Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with the agreed compliance and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is evident.
  • Evaluating and provide formulations - have the capability to adjust shade and giving direction if needed to technicians.
  • Assist Senior/ Principal Chemists in any investigation and/or corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) processes as required and provide technical laboratory support in conducting investigations and troubleshooting.
  • To prepare and or review documentation within areas relevant to your expertise, project manage and maintain your work data on the internal database (Product Vision) - provide relevant KPIs on your performance throughout the year and present in your yearly performance review document
  • Work in collaboration with the transfer of your formulation to the Industrialisation team. Gain knowledge of scale up and production transfers
    • Knowledge and experience:
  • BSc in Science or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years in cosmetic or person care formulation
