Job Description

Paint Operative To refinish all parts within paint department as directed by Team Leaders/ Senior Managers of the business, tasks should include the following activities based on the job description and fall in line with company skills matrix and H&S policy but not limited to supporting other areas as required.Duties:

  • Understanding Health & Safety in the workplace and in line with company policy.
  • Understanding who is responsible for Health & Safety within the department and who to report any concerns to.
  • Understanding the risks of chemicals and its storage in line with H&S regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions issued for current parts and where these are located.
  • Understand internal documentation for daily tasks, inspections sheets holiday/sickness forms.
  • Ability to Identify parts which are painted and processed through the department.
  • Identify distortions on all parts.
  • Skilled in the application of paint.
  • Understand simple Moulding processes.
  • Recognise defects within surface treatments once such treatments have been applied.
  • Knowledge of different types of substrates used with the paint department.
  • Cleaning processes for all substrates and identifying different means of preparing substrates.
  • Understanding all types of cleaning processes and their best methods.
  • Best practices for removing contamination.
  • Understand how to handle raw parts with due care and attention.
  • Knowledge know which products are available for all preparation on all substrates and preparing substrates ready for paint.
  • Ability to identify fixture requirements for certain parts regularly painted.
  • Understanding the process for having fixtures repaired should repairs be required.
  • Clear understanding of explosive atmospheres and its effects on H&S.
  • Safe storage of chemicals within a confined space.
  • Safe working practices within a paint kitchen.
  • Understanding of MSDS & TDS Sheets.
  • Knowledge of COSHH.
  • Understanding of chemical products widely used with paint refinishing industry.
  • Knowledge of how paint materials are best mixed and its effects on equipment.
  • Understand the different types of paints available that are used specifically within refinishing with the business.
  • Knowledge of how paint is pre-mixed prior to application and its pot life.
  • Understanding of different paint manufacturers and the ones we use within the business.
  • Full understanding of how we paint parts within our business to suit quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Knowledge of drying methods and curing conditions of all materials used.
  • Understanding how to mix certain paint materials to suit bespoke refinishing needs.
  • Skilled in capturing data for analytical purposes when refinishing.
  • Identify defects within substrates and coatings
  • Understand orange peel and visual appearance requirements.
  • Knowledge of what is the correct with appearance.
  • Knowledge of materials available to assist in polishing.
  • Skilled in polishing using machines and sanders.
  • Skilled in removing runs and defects as necessary.
  • Knowledge of 1st off parts, there locations and standards.
  • Understanding of customer standards and inspection processes required.
  • Understanding of internal inspection processes best suited to the business.
  • Understanding of internal quarantine processes when parts are defective and the route for defective parts and their storage.
  • Knowledge of how parts are packaged ready for delivery.
  • Understand sign off procedure once inspected.
  • Time served at all levels of paint within the refinishing department.
  • Uphold all polices in relation to health, Safety and Welfare
  • Skills/Qualifications:
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and reliability.
  • Proactive and innovative.
  • To work effectively on your own and as part of a team, with a positive can-do attitude.
  • The ability to prioritise workload.
  • The ability to work well and accurately in a time-constrained and pressured environment.
