Job Description

Barnsley Council are seeking two experienced Travel Enabler to join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a part time (20 hours), permanentbasisand in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £20,812 - £21,189 pro rataper annum.The Travel Enablerrole:As ourTravel Enableryoull provide support to adults, young people and children who are referred to the service to learn how to travel independently using public transport. Many of the trainees have additional needs, and travel trainingprovides them with the opportunity to achieve a level of independence that often leads to increased opportunities in work, education, and social activities.You will work with individual trainees, following a training plan and risk assessment developed with your Line Manager, to teach the required skills. You will work independently for some stages of the training process and collaboratively with the supportof your colleagues as the trainee progresses.You will be required to complete accurate reports documenting the progress of the trainee against their identified training needs.Training and support will be provided, and you will have regular catch-up conversations with your Line Manager to discuss the trainees progress and to provide any additional support, advice and guidance that you might need.Responsibilities as our Travel Enabler will involve:

  • Providingpractical travel training and support to individuals in accordance with their travel plans
  • Assisting in the preparation of a person-centred Travel Skills Training/Development plan, as required
  • Following detailed person-centred Training Plans, observe and assess the Individuals achievement against the goals identified within the plans and provide guidance and support as required
  • Contributingto and following risk assessments to minimise risks associated with developing skills and personal competence during travel training
  • Monitoring the Individuals progress and providing verbal and written reports, as required
  • Attending and contributingto team meetings as require
  • Attending and contributingto supervision meetings and personal development reviews, and attending training and other development events as required
  • Working with individuals from a range of vulnerable groups and maintaining good working relationships with people who use services and their families; co-workers/colleagues, other teams and relevant people
  • Maintaining confidentiality in respect ofindividuals who use the service, records, staff, the organisation, and third party information
  • Following all health and safety policies and procedures taking reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself, the individual being supported and other persons who may be affected by your actions or what you fail to do whilst undertaking the dutiesof the post.
Skills and experience were looking for in our Travel Enabler:
  • Level 2 Qualification in care or willingness to complete within 6 months of commencement of employment
  • Level 1 English and Maths
  • Previous experience working in a support or mentoring role
  • The ability to follow instructions and manage own workload effectively
  • The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively using a variety of appropriate methods, including a good standard of written and spoken English
  • Have a reliable open and honest approach to supporting people.
