Job Description

In the role of Technical Controller, youll lead your team to deliver and launch the great food / customer strategy requirements and provide process, material and equipment knowledge in order to meet customer expectations. You will work closely with customersand other departments to ensure the projects run to plan, seeking feedback at all stages and proactively resolving challenges.Throughout each project, you will analyse and track progress in order to achieve launch deadlines, resolving any development issues that may arise and updating key stakeholders. With this in mind you will consciously seek out ways to improve current production,either through processes or equipment capability to drive forward new efficiencies. You will drive and challenge quality and consistency of products through the scale up process to ensure this matches products designed by NPD / customer.A large focus of your role will be the management of your team, supporting a lean enterprise culture and aid them to maximize their potential, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees at all times.

  • Review and feedback on all proposed concept developments and highlight any technical / process challenges and opportunities for the business
  • Lead the team to launch products and packaging concepts of repeatable and sustainable quality in line with the food strategy, working closely with the innovation and commercial team.
  • Implementation of products, raw materials, processes and packaging into the factory mirroring translation from PD handover
  • Stakeholder engagement at site senior management level to ensure alignment to deliver the NPD pipeline / strategy and other Greencore strategic projects such as GPE projects
  • Role model for the Great Food principle, providing challenge to put food quality and innovation at the heart of the business
  • Work closely with our innovation, category and commercial, Product Development and Operational teams to bring to life concepts through the PLM process
  • Ensure compliance to process development procedures and polices so products are developed right first time e.g. Technical Risk Assessments
  • Manage the budget for your team through monitoring costs and spend
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure that across the team people are kept safe, engaged, focused, delivering their potential whilst having the right training and tools to effectively deliver in role
  • Ensure compliance to process development procedures and polices so products are developed right first time e.g. Technical Risk Assessments
  • Contribute to the Senior PD leadership team to support decision making within the department and support the Technical Director in delivering great food, customer communication, process and procedures.

  • Passion for food and for NPD and food trends
  • Experience of leading teams within chilled food process development
  • Proven track record of having delivered high quality, consistent products
  • Experience in effective management of relationships with retailers and with senior internal stakeholders
  • Demonstrated an ability to structure work and focus a team to deliver against an agreed vision
  • Graduate calibre; food / consumer science degree or equivalent knowledge gained in the work place over a minimum of 8-10 years
