Our partnerships with global companieshave paved the way for developing clean energy systems that revolutionize power generation, transportation, industry, and everyday living.Purpose of the role:The primary purpose of this position is to provide control and software engineering support as part of the Systems Engineering function group. Key tasks will be system design support from a control perspective, control requirements capture, modification ofexisting control strategies and calibration for new applications.The Control Engineer will also support the collaboration between the Control Engineering Team and the Test Department and will work on the tools and processes used by the two parties, to ensure efficiency and delivery against commitments.You will have excellent people skills, taking a pivotal communication and coordination role between the various technical teams. You will also have a strong delivery focus, using your technical knowledge to quickly resolve new issues.Key Accountabilities: * Support testing of our class-leading fuel cells and electrolysers as follows:* Design, implement, test and document new control software features* Develop new test stand models (Model in the Loop) or improve existing ones* Work with the wider systems team and test department to support software calibration and issue resolution* Engage with test department and end users of the control software to identify opportunities for improvement* Occasional design, manual modification, test and troubleshooting of electronics hardwareKnowledge and skills required for the role: The skills and experience described below could be from either an academic or industrial background. The role is mainly intended for early career candidates (less than 2 years of experience), but all candidates with the right background will be considered.* Control/Mechatronics/Automation Engineering degree or similar high-level qualification* Good experience of software development using Matlab / Simulink and Embedded Coder* Demonstrated familiarity with C/C++* Demonstrated familiarity with standard software development process workflow (implemented in Jira or similar)* Demonstrated familiarity with version control concepts (SVN, GIT, etc)Desired Skills:* Familiarity with electronics hardware design and troubleshooting* Familiarity with electronic control systems and common communications protocols such as CAN and Modbus* Familiarity with PLC programming, development environment, and control systems based on PLCs* Familiarity with automotive calibration tools such as ATI Vision, CANape or similar* Familiarity with Python* Familiarity with Visual BasicSoft skills:* Sound verbal and written communication skills to enable effective liaison with colleagues, and the exchange of complex software concepts with inexperienced users* Willingness to adapt and tailor working practices to suit the demands of the business* Be a fast learner of domain knowledge and terminologyYou will be working with a leading developer of clean energy technology who care deeply about our purpose, our people, our customers, and our planet.
