Job Description

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Ashford Borough Council - a local authority like no other in the county - for an Environmental Health Officer, based in a busy Community Safety and Wellbeing department.We will consider applicants who are EHRB qualified, or studying towards, degree or Diploma educated in Environmental Health or equivalent, or Environmental Health Officers or Food Safety Officers who hold the Higher Certificate in Food Control or Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection.You will carry out detailed investigations and audits of registered food premises within the Ashford borough and carry out programmed foods hygiene inspections and investigations into food complaints and referrals and other food safety matters. You may also investigate Health and Safety complaints and accidents and respond to Health and Safety service requests, with associated duties, ensuring current Food Standards Agency competence criteria for an authorised officer is undertaken along with high risk food hygiene official controls.Must have:

  • Good knowledge of the law around food hygiene requirements and enforcement;
  • Experience of inspecting and enforcing standards in commercial food premises;
  • Experience of investigating food poisoning cases and allegations, and complaints regarding food and food premises;
  • Great communication skills;
  • An investigative and analytical approach;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Strong IT skills and be able to produce clear reports and case records;
  • You must have a full driving licence to be able to travel around the Borough.
