Job Description

A thriving and ambitious FMCG business is looking for an accomplished and enthusiastic Cost Accountant to join its finance team. My client is a market leader in the UK and has a growing reputation worldwide.Reporting into the Finance Director, you will have the freedom to help make smarter, better-informed decisions that drive the business forward. In addition, you will work collaboratively with all levels of management.The primary function of this role is to lead the process; creating, validating and maintaining Bills of Material records, analysing variances between standard and actual costs of material, labour and overhead and ensuring the accurate valuation of inventory.Key responsibilities:

  • Collecting cost information and maintaining an expenses database
  • Constructing data gathering systems
  • Determining fixed costs (e.g., salaries, rent and insurance)
  • Planning and recording variable costs (e.g., purchases of raw material and operations costs)
  • Reviewing standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
  • Preparing budgeting reports
  • Analysing and reporting profit margins
  • Preparing (monthly, quarterly and annual) cost forecasts
  • Assisting in month-end and year-end closing
Skills and Experience:
  • Proven work experience as a Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, Accountant or similar role is essential
  • Working in an FMCG and or private label environment is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with accounting software, like MS Dynamics, Sage and CIM
  • Computer literacy, MS Excel in particular (familiarity with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables)
  • Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant study is desirable
