Job Description

Job Title: Accountant/AnalystDepartment: Research & Development QualityLocation: AshfordSalary: £35k-£45kReasons to work at this company:

Hours: 35 hours per week, 1-2 days a week in the office, ideally a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, Friday finish at 2pmAnnual leave: Holiday: 27 days a year to include 3 or 4 company allocated days between Christmas and New Year.Company culture: Fast moving, fresh and dynamic company who have a skilled and passionate team who believe in providing the best customer service.The job: As the R&D Quality Analyst youll report to the Quality Manager and work in a costings team of 5 individuals with similar responsibilities at differing levels of complexity. The R&D Quality Analyst will need to work closely withthe Consulting team to ensure open and clear communication about the progress of claims. Youll be responsible to processing and preparing costings data for inclusion in R&D tax return claims for clients, to provide scrutiny of the quality of client data andinterpret the same in relation to HMRCs R&D legislation and associated guidance.Your key responsibilities:
  • Preparation of client cost data for reports
    • Reviewing and checking incoming records from clients
    • Using client data to determine eligible costs, and calculation of the same for inclusion within the claim
    • Liaising with the Consulting team to ensure that the claim reflects your understanding of the client and their operations during the claim period
    • Providing critical analysis of data trends where appropriate
  • Quality Control
    • Ensuring information received from clients is accurate and complete
    • Ensuring procedures and methodology are followed and applied consistently
    • Ensuring consistent and accurate use of internal systems (MERCURY, CRM)
  • Engaging with clients
    • Requesting records / additional info / missing info
    • Provide detailed analyses and breakdowns where required
    • Attending technical interviews where appropriate to understand the background for the claim and any relevant facts that might inform the claim approach / methodology
    • Attending meetings with clients or their representatives to provide more information on costings
  • Developing self, others and team
    • Proactive management of learning / training / development for self, including seeking opportunities for growth and self-improvement
    • Attending internal or external learning and training opportunities as required
    • Actively setting targets and goals for self at appraisal, and in agreement with the Client Manager (or Quality Manager)
    • Mentoring / buddy with new staff as needed
    • Overseeing the work of junior colleagues
    • Attend weekly client team meeting and engage with planning workflows, managing priorities and deadlines
    • Attend monthly costings team meeting and contribute to discussions or plans about work processes, changes in legislation, changes in approach or methodology and other matters impacting the costings team
Skills and experience required:
  • Part or fully AAT, CTA or ATT qualified
  • Previous experience in a quality/analytical role
