Job Description

General Ledger Assistant AccountantReporting into the Management Accountant, the GL Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the General Ledger, creating the trial balance, and drafting financial statements. This includes delivering activities for month-end, calculatingand posting journals (including accruals), GL account reconciliations, reviewing and analysing the General Ledger/trial balance, and working with local Finance teams to identify adjustments.The GL Assistant will be required to execute the following responsibilities:

  • Perform general accounting support and month end within a shared service centre environment.
  • Review and analyse information from the general ledger and other accounting records to ensure accuracy and completeness, and take corrective action, as appropriate
  • Address audit enquiries / investigation
  • Create trial balance and draft financial statements
  • Undertake the execution of period-end accounting entries by posting manual journal entries and processing recharges (e.g., accruals, currency conversions, etc.)
  • Undertake the postings of journals and ensure that processes are correctly followed
  • Undertake the reconciliation of General Ledger / balance sheet accounts
  • Support in the production of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
  • Undertake the preparation of month-end and year-end close process
  • Develop sound professional working relationships with colleagues, business staff and management, building their confidence and acquiring an understanding of the business
  • Be proactive in the provision of feedback and the delivery of ideas to develop and improve solutions
  • Undertake any necessary training associated with the duties of the post and participates in training and development procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality and observes data protection guidelines
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with their capability
  • Support with project related activities
  • Perform other reasonable duties within the Record-to-Report pillar as required
Knowledge, Abilities & Experience
  • Proven experience as an assistant accountant/accountant
  • Member of a professional accounting body (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA, OROC, OCC or equivalent)
  • Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
  • Strong financial, analytical, communication and project management skills
  • Good analytical skills and detail orientated
  • BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field
  • Strong organisation and time management
  • Full proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, processes and workflow technology
  • Experience from working in a similar industry
  • Ability to work unsupervised and deliver high quality work to tight deadlines
