Job Description

BUSINESS TAX ASSISTANTHampshire Recruitment Services are delighted to represent a forward thinking, very well established, 3 office Accountancy Firm who have just moved into new offices due to significant growth.The firm has ambitious plans to grow over the next 3 years which will create more career opportunities. Salary: £25,000 - £35,000Study Support: ATT or CTALocation: Alton, HampshireBenefits: Pension, 25 days holiday, life insurance, free parking Overall objective:Responsible for providing support for the Corporate and Business Tax Manager with preparation of business and corporate tax returns and supporting with the provision of ad-hoc advice for corporate, business and owner managed company tax planning.This role would include Corporate tax, Partnership tax, capital allowances, share schemes, reorganisations, purchase of own shares, HMRC enquiries, company successions Responsibilities:

  • To assist with returns which are more complex and identify leads from the returns to generate tax-planning opportunities.
  • To ensure that clients are kept informed about their obligations and deadlines and that they are kept up to date with any relevant changes in legislation or best practice.
  • To build rapport and maintain regular contact with clients by telephone, email, letter and in person. To use sound judgement as to when it is appropriate to check the content of emails/letters with the appropriate manager/partner before despatch.
  • To be proactive in building rapport with the partners, managers and their staff to develop awareness of corporate tax matters and encourage them to refer more complex compliance and all tax planning work to the Corporate and Business Tax Manager.
  • To have a supporting role in the planning and monitoring of the workflow, and the effective financial management, of corporate/business tax work within the office.
  • To set time and fee budgets for own work and to have input to fee quotes and to issue bills as requested.
  • To support with the special business tax planning and advisory assignments as requested by the manager/partner. This is likely to involve research, acting as a sounding board to the relevant manager, and discussing appropriate advice to be given to theclient.
  • To be responsible for keeping up to date on all technical matters which affect the ability to provide high quality advice.
  • To undertake any ad hoc projects as requested by the manager/partners.
The Person:
  • The Corporate and Business Tax Assistant needs to have a level of experience or exposure to a broad range of tax experience with knowledge of owner managed companies being an advantage.
  • This is a new role, and job holder needs to promote the service internally and over time, externally to build a reliable and steady flow of referrals.
  • They should be good at listening and extracting relevant information to interpret what is needed.
  • The ability to relay, in writing and orally, complex technical information by varying the wording and style according to the technical understanding of the audience is very important.
  • This role requires an enquiring mind, and an interest in developing and learning more either with practical involvement or should the candidate wish a more structured tax training route with ATT and/or CTA.
  • The candidate must have sound organisational and time management skills in order to provide the supporting role to the Manager.
