Job Description

CompanyIndependence Capital are a hybrid investor-advisor specialising in management-led transactions.This nationally focused lower-mid-market sponsor has a unique investment thesis, looking to attract the highest calibre leaders from across the UK and does so by structuring transactions which allow its portfolio leaders a majority stake in their venture.For their chosen candidates this represents a replacement to traditional private equity - where Independence have made significant progress already enabling teams who have scaled/exited through traditional private equity and who want now to build their owngroup to benefit themselves and on their terms.RoleAs a result of ongoing growth Independence are seeking to broaden their team by adding emerging talent. The role is an entry-level role which will give a breadth of experience including:

  • Administrative support of Analysts and Directors
  • Supporting research activities
  • Supporting engagement with prospective investors (from high-net-worths/family office to institutional and public)
  • Supporting engagement with prospective lenders (from high street to credit funds to family offices)
  • Supporting engagement with the professional services community (for instance lawyers and accountants)
  • Supporting clients/portfolio companies with buy-side work and planning for future acquisitions
  • Supporting clients/portfolio companies with growth/sell-side work planning for impending/a future exit
  • Supporting the business in its recruitment, networking and marketing activities
  • Engaging with suppliers of the business generally
The role is very broad in nature and work will be unstructured and varied depending on the circumstances of the business, its clients and portfolio. Whilst this provides variation and challenge it will also create for candidates an unrivalled environementto learn in accelerated fashion and be exposed quickly to the front-end (client-facing) aspect of M&A, often more typically available post-qualifying 5yrs+.Candidate & requirementsThis is an exceptional role for exceptional candidates.Given the varied nature of the role, it is expected that entry level position will create an environment where candidates can quickly identify what most directly interests them and plays to their respective skill-set. It has in the past proven a role whichhas allowed early entrants to evolve their role from very broad to narrow down around a specific niche or activity which they have a particular skill or interest in and where they can expect to develop growing responsibility in accelerated fashion.Given the broad nature of the skills required to make a success of M&A transactions (networking, research, analysis, negotiating, stakeholder mgmt, data/coding, business development, marketing, critical thinking, planning) its is expected that no one candidatewill posses all, the business is also open to recruiting generalists or experts in any particular field i.e being exceptional in networking/people skills alone is accepted - a broad and balanced team of differing talents is desirable over and above a teamof 20 accountantsAll candidates will have to demonstrate the core competencies of 1) elite or exceptional acheivement - which can be a sport if not academic 2) a talent and resolve for solving problems - which can come in many forms 3) evidence of winning through teamwork.A passion, curiosity and interest in finance, markets, M&A is preferred for obvious reasons and being able to articulate why this is of interest and how it has manifested in your life so far is importantThe role is also open for those wishing to migrate from an existing career i.e moving from a previous scheme or role elsewhere (even if not related to M&A) is not a deterrant per se if the candidate can evidence the move is rational and the experience additiveto date is additive in making the next step with convictionA degree (of any kind, let alone law or accountancy) is not required to applyA technical qualification is not required to applyThis is an evironment for exceptional, young, hungry & resilient talent looking to develop a career for themselves in M&A and to be surrounded by other like minded yound professionals, all helping each other for the greater good of the firm and clientsRewards
