This is a National Training Post designed to lead to registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Healthcare Professions Council and will be based within the Aberdeen Fertility Centre. The Aberdeen Fertility Centre provides IVF/ICSI, and frozen embryo transfer treatment and also has an extensive egg and sperm donation programme. The Centre has been providing patients in Grampian, Highland, Orkney and Shetland with a full range of fertility services for over 25 years. The Centre has been involved in many notable Scottish achievements (first live birth following IVF treatment, first egg donation live birth, first frozen embryo live birth, first ICSI live birth, first live birth following surgical sperm retrieval and first ISO certified unit in Scotland).The centre offers a full range of services including IVF, ICSI, gamete donation and a cryopreservation programme and provides up-to-date clinical procedures to achieve the highest standard of fertility service to all patients. The treatments provided are all under the legislation of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology (HFE) Act and the HFEA Code of Practice. The semen analysis service is ISO15189:2012 accredited and the Aberdeen Fertility Centre operates under ISO9001:2012. In 2019, the AFC laboratory carried out approximately 1100 semen analyses, approximately 500 cycles of IVF/ICSI, 300 frozen thawed embryo transfers and 100 IUIs with both partner’s and donor sperm. The centre is closely associated with the University and has students in the centre every year.The post holder will join a team of dedicated embryologists and will become proficient and participate in all embryology and andrology procedures for the assessment and treatment of infertility. These include in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), gamete recruitment and donation, gamete and embryo cryopreservation and surgical sperm retrieval.The post holder will be expected to undertake training and deliver clinical work at an exceptionally high standard, with meticulous attention to detail.A recognised Life Sciences degree awarded at 2;2 or above with a related MSc or PhD is essential.Interviews will take place on the 7th of July and the sucessful candidate must be available to commence employment on the 1st of September 2021.Informal contact: Joanne Leitch,EU Settlement SchemeEU, EEA or Swiss nationals are strongly encouraged to join the EU Settlement Scheme prior to 30th June 2021.
