Job Description

Oversee a cross-functional software development team, working closely with users and stakeholders, and product owner to help define, shape, and deliver the product according to business needs. Manage complex, technically challenging projects, and help theteam to think creatively to solve problems. Take responsibility for the professional and personal development of team members.Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership - provide leadership and direction to the software development project
  • Technical - work collaboratively with architecture and developers to understand and recommend suitable technological solutions for the development project
  • Delivery & Quality Management - lead the team and deliver work to agreed timescales and quality using an agile development methodology
  • Performance Management & Improvement - Contribute to the continual improvement of the software development team and methods
  • Technical & Commercial Knowledge - maintain an understanding of Marine Software applications, architecture, and technologies together with a good awareness of the Maritime Business (and others as appropriate), Lloyds Registers customers and commercialactivities
  • Recommend skillsets for hiring new developers to ensure we build the right teams, undertake or arrange recruitment, training and development of staff.
  • Manage the performance of all staff in their team, ensuring the team have the relevant level of resources, skills & experience to meet the business needs. Perform 1-2-1s, proactively dealing with people issues, staff motivation & development
  • Report to the Marine Software Engineering Manager on the progress of development
Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements
  • Possession of a degree in Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or a relevant numerical/engineering subject.
  • Significant experience in agile software development as an engineering manager or technical lead
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A team player who works well with technical and non-technical resources
  • Ability to take strategic direction from executive management; Initiative
  • Ability to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance
  • Shall possess sufficient relevant previous working experience as a technical leader to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the relevant specialist requirements, knowledge, and application.
  • Ability to facilitate a team to consensus on scope, design decisions, and implementation decisions
  • Experience of development of technical engineering or mathematical/scientific software would be an advantage.
  • Experience of hands-on software development would be an advantage, especially any of C#/.NET, C++, SQL, OutSystems, JS, Web API, Azure PaaS, HPC, Kubernetes/Docker, Azure DevOps and Git source control
