Job Description

RECRUITMENTiQ is working in partnership with apharmaceutical company focused on developing therapeutics from the human gut microbiome.Our client is looking for aResearch Assistant.The RoleThe successful candidate will support the activities of the Microbiology team in Aberdeen. This will primarily involve applying metabolomics approaches to understand the mode of action of LBP candidates and mining the 4D Pharma bacterial culture collectionto identify and characterize microbial metabolites with the potential to mediate host-microbe interactions. This work will include the characterization of the metabolic profiles of bacterial strains using targeted and untargeted metabolomic analysis tools.Experience and Skills

  • An MSc in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, with at least a year of academic or industry experience.
  • Experience with HPLC and mass spectrometry techniques with experience in HPLC method development.
  • Experience with detection, quantification, and purification of bacterial metabolites.
  • Previous laboratory experience and ability to follow SOPs.
  • Experience in a range of microbiological techniques.
  • Experience working with anaerobic bacteria would be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop methods to quantify bacterial metabolites.
  • Provide technical support to the Microbiology team.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of data.
  • Report results to the team lead and research scientists within the team.
  • Attend and contribute to research group meetings.
  • General laboratory and equipment maintenance and stock control.

The ideal candidate will combine excellent technical skills and communications expertise with a collaborative approach that will demonstrate the value of communications.A strong background in a wide range of microbiological techniques is therefore required for this position with a particular emphasis on mass spectrometry, HPLC, and other techniques required for the quantification of bacterial metabolites.
