Trainee Biomedical Scientist (Band 5 – Annex 21)/ Biomedical Scientist 1 (Band 5 – Annex 20)/ Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6)Medical Microbiology Department, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary37.5 hours per weekApplications are invited from Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientists for this full-time post in the Microbiology Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Candidates with an IBMS accredited BSc (Honours) degree in Biomedical Science leading to HCPC registration and deemed suitable for training purposes, will be considered. Newly graduated candidates, if successful, will be placed on AFC Band 5 and required to complete their Specialist Portfolio prior to progression to band 6.The Department is approved by IBMS/ HCPC as a Training Laboratory and is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 standards. It provides a comprehensive diagnostic microbiology (including virology) service to NHS Grampian, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland. The post holder will therefore be expected to have a firm understanding of the full range of diagnostic procedures carried out within the Microbiology department. Participation in CPD activities is mandatory and progression to attaining the IBMS Specialist qualification is essential. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in the Continuous Processing Shift system currently in operation which is EWTD compliant and attracts suitable remuneration.
