Many children who attend our clinics are referred for blood samples to be obtained. Traditionally these were obtained in the children’s hospital in Aberdeen. We are now providing this service in community locations closer to the child’s home. As a result we are now looking to increase our phlebotomy workforce to enable us to deliver this service.We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual who has proven skills in effectively communicating with children and their families. Previous experience as a phlebotomist is essential but additional training in taking samples from children will be provided if required. You must be able to work well within different teams of people and be able to plan and organise your workload within the realms of the job description.The majority of the post holder’s work will be delivering a phlebotomy service in community locations which include the Health Village in Aberdeen, Kincardine Hospital at Stonehaven, Fraserburgh Hospital and Inverurie Hospital. There will be occasional times however when community hubs are not on and you will be working within the Children’s Hospital at Aberdeen. In the event there are no children needing blood sampling at RACH the post holder will have roles within the Day Case Unit, infusion bay on the inpatient floor and outpatient department supporting the nursing team with clinic duties and general stocking, cleaning and tidying.This post will require excellent manual dexterity and hand eye co-ordination and a level of fitness that enables the staff member to be on their feet for much of the day.Working hours are Mon-Friday between the hours of 8 and 6pm, exact times flexible to meet the demands of the clinics in the community hub locations. Car driver and owner is essential for this role.
