Job Description

NHS Grampian would like to invite applicants to apply for an exciting opportunity in Surgical and Medical specialties within NHS Grampian.The Clinical Developmental Fellowship (CDF) Programme is suitable for Trainees who have completed the UK Foundation Programme in August 2020 or will complete this in August 2021, Core Surgical Training or Core Medical Training. This post is from 4 August 2021 until 2 August 2022.The CDF Programme comprises of experience in Acute Clinical Specialties in both Medicine and Surgery. Each placement is 6 months therefore if you accept a post for the year you will undertake 2 x 6 month placements.Specialties have not been confirmed but previous departments have been:AMIA, Cardiology, Dermatology/General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Haematology, Neurology, Oncology, Renal, Cardiothoracic, ENT, General Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Urology, Vascular Surgery.In addition to the Clinical component you will be assigned to an area of developmental interest in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen: such as Medical Education and Simulation training, Quality Improvement, Research and Development, or Leadership and Management. These activities will be supported through a mentorship programme.This year we are also offering an opportunity to become an Academic CDF If you have a strong Career Aspiration to become a Medical Researcher or a Medical Educator, the University of Aberdeen will provide the following to support your development towards this Career as follows:1- an Honorary Contract with Medical School at the University of Aberdeen and use of University library facilities2- Academic Mentor or Education Academic Mentor3- research project or pedagogic evaluation/ significant piece of curriculum development4- optional research to publication course- online 200 hrs module from BMJ which must be completed within 6 months; or working towards a qualification in education or recognition by one of the national bodies e.g. PgCert Clinical Education.Successful candidates will be contracted for 40hrs per week – 28 hours per week on average undertaking clinical activities; 12 hours per week on average will be protected for developmental activities and there will be an out-of-hours commitment. The post holder will be paid at ST level based on their previous experience. A banding supplement relevant to the OOH component of their rotas will also be received.The post is of high educational value and supported by the University of Aberdeen Medical School. However, it is not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean.Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required.
