NHS GRAMPIANCONSULTANT MICROBIOLOGIST AND INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL DOCTOR JOB REFERENCE: BC043770Applications are invited for this new post in the Department of Medical Microbiology at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This department is fully compliant with the standards contained in ISO 15189 as accredited by UKAS and provides a comprehensive diagnostic service to NHS Grampian (population. approx. 500,000), some referral work from NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland and a nationally funded antibiotic susceptibility testing service for cystic fibrosis non-fermenters. The successful candidate will join seven other Consultant Microbiologists in the diagnostic work of the Laboratory as well as in clinical liaison and antibiotic stewardship. Currently there are three joint trainees with Infectious Diseases. You will contribute to all aspects of service delivery including teaching, audit, research and service development. The department has existing successful research programmes on MRSA, antibiotic resistance and antibiotic stewardship. In addition, you will be one of seven Infection Prevention and Control doctors in the department. The department is well staffed with infection control nurses and there is also administrative support. ICNET is interfaced with the LIMS. The successful applicant will be appointed on 10 PA contract. The post attracts an on-call availability supplement. Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is a 1,000 bed Tertiary Referral Teaching Hospital with extensive University links and facilities on-site and you will have the opportunity to contribute to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.
